Troubleshooting Connectivity

Hey guys, I posted the same thing here, but it's not getting any traffic, and this looks like a better place for it anyways.

Ok, here's the situation.

Two computers, one the pitboss machine, and one the game machine.
Linksys BEFSR41 v4 router.
Static IP's on both CPs, port 2056 (UDP & TCP) forwarded to pitboss machine.
Windoze and Norton firewall off on the pitboss machine.
Both PC's patched to 2.08

I can connect via the internal IP of the pitboss machine from the gaming machine, but no one else can connect via the external IP. Any suggestions?

May want to verify that the Universal Plug and Play service is running and that the it's enabled on the router.

I myself am having no problem connecting to games, but recently I have noticed that when I am online that some players are not able to play while I am online. I have Zone Alarm Security Suite 7 and I have both Civ4 and Warlords configured so that it is in the trusted and internet section of my firewall. I also have both of those settings in medium. What can I do to help other to connect while I am online? I also notice that it does not affect every player.

I am getting Out of Sync errors in the year 2125. We are playing 3 player lan, no AI. Was working fine, now every turn it errors. Any help out there? Frustrated as hell with the MP....

Are both the game machine and the Pitboss on the same router? If so, you don't connect via the outside IP address. Simply enter "localhost" as your IP address and both should be able to log in effectively.

Right, the problem isn't with me getting in though, it's everyone else. I think I've just about given up on this. I contacted Take2 and they were of no help. They just told me to do what I've already done.

currently after alomst a year of not playing i cant seem to log on to the game spy part

it asks for my name and password but does nothing when provided with them

???

How do you set up a direct IP game for the following scenario:

One PC connected to the Internet through a Blackberry accessing Verizon.

The other PC connected through wireless router to cable modem accessing Comcast

??

Assuming one side "hosts" does the other look to the router IP address assigned from the ISP or the actual PC IP address assigned by the router? Assuming the firewalls are setup to allow access by civilization4.exe are there any other settings necessary?

Any help is appreciated!

For the computer that is hosting, goto http://www.whatismyip.com/ and that will tell you it's public IP. The other computer would use that IP to DirectIP into the game. This should work assuming there are not router/firewall issues. Although your the first person I've seen using your blackberry to play civ, not sure how reliable that connection is for a civ game. You should be able to host the game in the Gamespy Lobby and join it that way too.

CanuckSoldier..thanks for the reply. I'm not the one that has the Blackberry connection, that's my opponent. I'd like to host a directIP game, but I have a wireless router that stands between my cable modem and the PC I play on...although the PC I play on is not wireless, but hard cabled into the router. Does the game handle this OK? The router "assigns" its own IP to the PC.

Thanks again!

Your router will do the work of "routing" your internet public IP to the private LAN IP that it has given your computer. But most routers also have firewalls, so if you have issues, make sure that your routers firewall lets port 2056 UDP threw it.

Perhaps this is on the edge of the topic, but I hope you can help me anyway...

When I tried to start a hotseat game, all civs were human controlled, even if a flagged them as AI. How come and what do I do?

It's hard for me to read all the threads. I've been hunting, but found no step by step solution.

I play with a friend over the internet. We both open 2056 TCP/UDP on our routers and we turn off the Windows Firewall (to eliminate that as a possible problem).

End result : within about 2-5 turns, ALWAYS, we get out of sync errors. it's a nightmare. really enjoy playing Civ.

Oh, also, it constantly says we are running different versions. Well, that's hard to believe as we both installed identically (one possible different, I have installed from the box set, which has the 1.61 patch preinstalled).

We get out of sync whether we play Civ 1.61 or Warlords 2.08, but I'd say it's far far more common in Warlords, and possibly ViSa.

It's a mess ...

- is there any step by step guide to completely certifying that networking to stop out of sync ?

- is there a way to resync from within the game with all the leave game and rejoin nonsense ?

- is there a way to make our games at the same version (THEY ARE AT THE SAME VERSION, but Civ SAYS we are running different versions which is nonsense unfortunately) ?

Thanks very much in advance if anyone has a good guide to troubleshooting this, as all I see when I multiplay is a red flashing OOS banner across the screen. ALWAYS. And I like playing Civ, I really really like it, but it's virtually unplayable because of this damm annoying problem !!!

Thanks :)

Roy.

im always disconnecting from multiplayer games. I'll be in the middle of a turn, when it will say that i have disconnected from the server. Even if im not in a game, if i leave it in the lobby, it'll do this to me. It does it at random and gives no warning.

It may be connected to my always red-barring in Halo 2 as well. Whenever i played the game, it would redbar and I'd disconnect very often, lagging all the time.

Has anyone else had this problem? How did you fix it?

Me and my brother play on a lan. Now lately we have been getting all these "waiting for other player" messages about every 10 minutes. The computers reconnect to each other and game continues for another 5-10 minutes and we get the message again... Any idea's???

Same happens for me on directip through vpn or through gamespy... gets more severe as the game progress. Is it simply a performance issue? - did anyone solve this?

Both ends running warlords 2.13

    I tried to play multiplayer over the internet and it said i needed some patch. i got it and then i restarted the game and it said i had to get another one. i did that and when i went to play, it says "This application has failed to start because D3x9_32.DLL was not found. Re-installing may fix the problem." so i did and i had to do that gay patch thing again, and same result.

WHAT THE HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HELP ME

That's a Directx problem. Go to the Firaxis website and find the files section for Civ4 they provide a link to microsoft where you can get the appropriate version of DirectX.

Hi guys

Been looking around for the last day now and I cant seem to find a solution to the problem im experiencing. Ive seen people post with the same problem alot.

Basically its the 3 person LAN issue. All 3 are on the same LAN network...

A hosts and B can join but C cant etc...

We've all opened ports and tried it with no firewalls on and still we cant both join.

Is there anyway to fix this at all????

Thanks

Multiplayer Direct IP Connection over the Internet between 2 players has been very shoddy for us since the 3.13 BTS patch. Up until this recent patch, we have never had these out of sync errors and client CTDs. What's the deal?

I'm running a BtS v3.13 Pitboss and have had frequent disconnects while players try to join. The Pitboss program reports a Network Socket Error.

Anybody know a fix for this?
