Truly Unique Units, Buildings and Improvements

Good point, still the Huns are the perfect candidate for 3 early UUs. And another mounted one would suit them.

What would complement the horse archer well as a UU that doesn't replace anything?

I remember seeing this documentary on the plague, with this thing that Mongols used biological warfare in order to weaken cities.
Maybe for Mongolia?
Edit: No Mongolia. Maybe for the huns then

Possible, but seems hard to implement. Perhaps a unit that decreases health of adjacent cities, even when it is not attacking?

Not sure you would suit best (Assyrians but as their not in, maybe Babylon?)

Seige Tower:
Weaker than catapult and range of one, but no iron requirement.
Start with Cover promotion, and can stack with one melee unit (to protect them from city range attacks)

Every time the unit is wounded but surrounded, it deals damage?

Nice one! Which tech should it come at?

Hmmm... so basicly a fairly weak unit that deals some damage to all adjacent enemies when damaged?

It could certainly work, throw a few off them in your army and don't let them heal. It's still pretty out there but I'll add it. How about name, stats and tech?

Also for the siege tower, it should upgrade into trebuchet, yes?

Wheel sounds good as a tech, not sure for it's upgrade though. I was seeing it as an alternative siege weapon if you weren't lucky enough to get iron...
Suppose Trebuchet will have to do, and just hope you've conquered somewhere with iron with the towers!

Yup, better than no upgrade. Besides, trebuchet is a hell of a lot later. If you don't have iron by then siege towers aren't going to be any good either.

One I thought of for the aztecs:
Eagle:
Replaces Longswordman, same strength. Unique promotion, upon killing an enemy unit the Eagle gains a 2% combat strength modifier for future battles, up to some maximum (15?)

A big part of an Aztec warrior's standing in their culture was how many slaves they had captured in battle, who could then be sacrificed so the Gods may favour the Aztecs.
It would also provide good synergy with the jaguar, any you manage to upgrade to Eagles will be a very scary unit!

forgive me if I'm wrong, but weren't eagles generally armed with spears?

Well my knowledge stretches as far as wikipedia  which says "The warriors used a number of weapons, including an atlatl, bows, spears and daggers. The Aztec blades were made by setting obsidian within wood. The stone was sharper than steel but quickly lost its edge. Firestones were flung at enemies using slings made of wool. Most Aztec weapons were intended to stun and capture opponents rather than to kill them".

I was making them Longswordmen just for the synergy with the jaguar. Another idea I had was that on killing a unit, there was a % chance it would increase pop in one of your cities, though I didn't think it would be that useful.

Not that usefull? Seems pretty powerfull to me. :P

Anyway, the idea behind this thread is that every civ gets a UU/UB/UI that doesn't replace an existing one. So your suggestion is possible but it needs to be a truly seperate unit somehow (though it should upgrade to something).

So for civs that don't have an UI I'm looking for a truly unique UB/UU/UI. For civs that currently have a UI, I'm looking for a UB/UU/UI that does replace something that already exists.

Also see the example in the OP.

Your suggestion isn't bad though! It could be a special melee unit that upgrades into the longswordsmen. I like the idea that it gets stronger by killing.

Idea for Germany!

V
a guided missile that comes earlier than the current one and upgrades into the current one. Has smaller range and less damage. Also has 50% chance to miss and hit an tile adjacent to the enemy instead.

Not very powerfull but it can give you a nice edge. Being able to use missiles before anyone else. Should also be cheap to compensate for their weakness.

Here are some ideas

France

UB: Salon. +1 :c5science: +1:c5culture: . Bonuses doubled if Liberty, Rationalism, or Freedom social trees are complete. Tripled if all three are complete. Becomes available with Printing Press. Represents France's contribution to the Enlightenment.

Russia

UU: T-34 Tank. attack bonus vs. other tanks. Defensive bonus against land units. Gives Russia a more modern unit to use. One of the most recognizable and effective WWII tanks.

Babylon

UB: Code of Law Stele. Acts as a cheaper courthouse but takes turns to fully pacify an occupied city. In non-occupied cities +1 Happiness and +1 Gold. Becomes available with writing.

Great!

So at which tech should the salon and T-34 Tank come?

England could have spitfires as a UU
Probably a little too similar to the Zero, but I'm sure it could be tweaked.
