The markets are so enamored with deregulation that they can't see what's right in front of their face. But I am also not surprised by that, Pretty much any economist from all schools were saying how bad this was gonna be but stocks didn't give a crap until it blew up.

Honestly, I think the reason the stock market didn't "believe" Trump would do anything really bad for them is very similar to the reasons the national security state couldn't believe January 6th would be a real big problem until it happened.

Of course I do.

What is your point ?
You called others hypocritical for justifying the federal mandate on interstate commerce because they don't like that Trump is president. There are Republicans at the state and local level that obviously share Trump's views. Therefore, your insistence that they ought to support decentralization if they do not like Trump ignores the fact that your solution would still result in many Republicans still being the ones calling the shots.

You called others hypocritical for....

If I recall correctly, I have not called anyone hypocritical in this thread.

The point is that if Donald Trump is going to screw things up at
the federal level and that looks almost certain to me; there is an
opportunity to try to ameliorate the consequences at a state level.

But I suspect some are mourning for what is that will no longer be.

Buddy if you woke up one day and your government was like "hey everyone, you're gonna be eating a lot more bird poop starting next month" i like to think you'd be mourning too but I guess judging from your activity on this website your response would be something more like "it has not been adequately proven to me that consuming bird poop is actually harmful to human health"

It's amazing the number of government registries of undesirables I would be on if I lived in the US. My odds of survival would not be looking great.

(Which makes it a very personal matter when I say, keep your hands off Canada you cheetos-eating surrender monkey).

The latest Reuters poll has Trump finally underwater on immigration polling (albeit by 1%). The Abrego Garcia kidnapping is driving a lot of the anger when you look at other similar polls. Elected Dems absolutely should not run away from this topic.

Alas, as we have the virgin presidential system instead of the Chad parliamentary system, we are for now stuck with Trump for… *checks calendar* just another 3 years and 9 months.

@ Danjuno

There is a distinction between double think and hypocrisy.

Some disgusting things are allowed in foods, as they are unrealistic to completely avoid. Current regulations keep those things to a bare minimum. Get rid of those regulations, those disgusting things can start making up a larger % of what the consumer doesn't want.

That is a good answer. The question then is does Donald Trump intend to get rid of those regulations ?

i can answer this: one that doesn't regulate

Producers rely upon reputation for repeat sales. If they get caught shipping too much poo, their market disappears.

However regulation that prevents people knowing the origin of the food they eat eliminates the risk of loss of reputation.

And that is why the UK ought not to enter into any treaty with the USA that obviates the source of food products.

Our Prime Minister is probably foolish enough to do that, however the erratic approach of Donald Trump may prevent it.

One reason Heinz ketchup is ubiquitous in the US is entirely because when the FDA was created, it was the only ketchup brand putting it’s product in a clear glass bottle, and not using lead paint to redden their packaging. It was like that for decades.
