Try2 - Return of the Newbies!

Starting my other turns now , will go for yellow dot and red if I still have time , will try to scout out green dot if the bear doesnt eat me :scared:

Pretty boring turnset .

Turn 50: Delhi grows to 3 , chop finished , change Delhi to worker .
Spoiler :

Turn 51: Delhi back to the warrior (due in 1) if we would have just chopped and completed the warrior we would have lost some hammers to the overflow limit . MM for growth.

Turn 52: Delhi: warrior > worker , MM again
Turn 53 : spot a second bear  I dont dare to cross untill they are out of sight , will try to get my 2 warriors on that forested plains hill .
Spoiler :

Turn 54: bears out of sight , waiting for my second warrior.
Turn 55: they are back
Turn 56: Masonry > AH
Turn 57: Delhi : worker > warrior , MM growth
Turn 58: Bears moving forward , I dont dare to fight them on a regular hill.
Will have to fall back on the other forested hill but lose sight over the other tiles, will have to wait for a border pop from Delhi , losing a warrior isnt a option .
Turn 61: Bear comes next to me but doesnt attack?
Turn 62: Delhi grows to 4 , change to settler(13)
Turn 67: Delhi : whip settler for 2 pop had 7 turns remaining.
Turn 68: Delhi : settler > warrior
Turn 69: AH > Pottery , Bombay founded and starts on barrack , start pasturing the sheep.
Turn 71: Delhi : warrior > WB , sheep pasture done
Turn 72: start on the stone quarry
Turn 73: Delhi grows to size 3 , whip the wb there.
Turn 74: Delhi : WB > stonehenge
Turn 75: Delhi gets second borderpop , I can finally move my warrior forward , the bears are still only 2 tiles away
Turn 76: Stone quarry done
Turn 78: Delhi size 3
Turn 79: Victoria > slavery . We got pottery , start on sailing since we have cheap lighthouses.
Change Bombay to a granery
Turn 80: Bombow grows to size 2

I didnt get any scouting done since I didnt wanna risk losing warriors and wasting production .
Lets just hope Victoria sends some juicy stuff for the bears to eat

Side note , cause of my heavy whipping we still have 17 turns of whipping anger remaining so your gonna have to halth grow for a bit once you get size 4 .
We can already see what Victoria is researching which is offcourse very helpfull!

Some suggestions
After stonehenge is done (which shouldnt take long) I would build/whip the settler for red dot followed by the pyramids.
Whip the granery at Bombay when able.

Our empire :

Sorry for the double post .
Forgot about something.
On the stonehenge , there are only 13 beakers in atm but we can finish it in about 5 or 6 turns coupled by 2 chops or about 8 turns with 1 chop.
Feel free to change if you think its necesarry.

The 2 bears are still alive so watch it if you want to go scouting.

Request: please put most images into SPOILER tags, it makes the thread easier to read and load faster :) If there's a certain one you really want to show off, go ahead, but for the most part this would be very appreciated ;)

beakers into stonehenge? sorry, had to poke at that :D

Will look at the save and post further comments when I get home tonight!

Will do!

Hehe , thats what u get for playing CiV a entire day , luv these sick days from work even though I feel :faint:

Alright, I've gotta know. . . what on earth does MM mean?

Micro-Manage. Basically you move around which tiles are being worked in a city to achieve a desired result - either to limit or speed up growth, production, whatever you want.

Also, I worked 10+ hours today, my brain is fried. Will look at save in morning if I have time.

Man, the south is UGLY!

On monarch I think the AI starts with archers, so it is probably too late for an early rush, especially since to get copper we need to backfill some pretty fugly land.

I figure we need to rush stonehenge, get out a settler, and take a risk and skip over some of the worse southern lands to grab the copper/cow/silk site on the tile 1W of the Cow or 1NE of the copper (too minimize desert/mountains). Then grab the rice coastal tile to block off our section of the pennisula. We can then, depending on the level of England forces, either build an army or expand to the islands. An exploring workboat would be useful.

This was a kind of suckish start.

Play 30 turns, Mitch ;)

Anyway, another couple things - why are we teching Sailing  I know we have cheap lighthouses, but do we NEED lighthouses right now? imo, the answer is no so we would be better off teching elsewhere...perhaps writing, towards math (better chops) and Literature (I'm addicted to the great library).

I think we need to be less :whipped: happy, as being stuck at size 4 will hurt us in terms of how quickly we get the 'mids. I'll leave it up to Mitchifer on whether or not to skip around Stonehenge.

Good call on sailing , I started on sailing for the cheap lighthouses thinking we would need to grow fast once we got the 'mids up , writing and maths are indeed a whole lot better .
Lucky for us we only have invested 1 turn in sailing so far.

On the whipping , im guilty of being a heavy whipper!
However , SH will be build in the next 5-7 turns (if we continue to build it) , add in a settler for the copper spot (I would really stick with red dot) and the whipping anger is gone.

Are we gonna wait for maths to start chopping our forests for the 'mids?
We can pre-chop all the forests (3 move workers are VERY handy for this ;) ) and chop them all rapidly when math comes in .

In case someone doesnt know what pre-chopping is
Spoiler :
Let a worker start chopping a forest , just hover over the worker and the turns go down every turn , once it says 2 turns left after he has done his action , cancel chopping and move on to the next forest .
Once we get maths in we can then chop them all in 1 turn.

Hopefully Mitchifer will be back and can continue the game today - his work schedule in his sig says Jan 28-30, today's the 31st :)

Ok, I think that the early game is one of my weak-points, but I did the best I could. Below is my report:

Turns 1-10: I decide to continue working on Stonehenge - our workers chop two forests to help it along and the settler to come afterwards:

Spoiler :

Unfortunately for us, at the same time Stonehenge finished, the Oracle was built in a faraway land.

I also changed our tech research to writing. In hindsight, I probably should have done iron working first, so as to pick a city location with iron. During this time, Judaism was founded in a distant land.

Turns 11-20:

On turn 12, we finished writing, and I started working on agriculture for farms. Again, I should've gone with iron working, since our farmable land is in short supply. With our new technology, I sign an open borders agreement with Victoria and send our warrior on an exploration mission.

I finished off the settler in Delhi with the whip, and then him south after I saw this:

Spoiler :

It looks like we're going to be boxed in - not to mention we lost one of our spots. I felt that instead of going for the red dot like originally planned, I went after the blue dot before it was too late.

Our warrior/settler combo makes his way south and is almost destroyed by barbarians, but our brave warriors fend off the attack:

Spoiler :

Also during this time, Victoria converts to Judaism. We still haven't met its founder.

Turns 20-30:

Not much later, the city of Vijayangara is founded:

Spoiler :

Our warrior also reports back with his scouting mission results, having found the rest of Victoria's empire:

Spoiler :

During his travels, he also meets another rival:

Spoiler :

Back on the homefront, after seeing the multitude of barbarians wandering around, Bombay produces a couple of warriors and then starts working on the Great Wall. It hasn't gotten very far, so the next person can change it if you'd like - I personally like the early great spy and it doesn't take to build the wall since we have stone.

Here's the map at the end of my turnset. We've got a scout and a warrior in the southern parts continuing the exploration mission.

Not bad, Mitch! :goodjob:

I am personally quite happy that you nabbed our blue dot spot, as with any luck it will keep Vicky from getting copper and enable us to have an easy early rush! We definitely want to get the Pyramids built in Delhi, but I would also really like to finish settling any usable land between our cities (maybe there isn't any  )

Haven't heard from Carneios here in quite a while, hopefully he's still around!

I'll get on this within the time limit but first: Do I play 15, 20 or 30 turns?

Also, what general goals should I be trying to accomplish during this time?

20 turns for now I think.

As to goals, etc - if you want to wait a few hours I will look at the save and post my opinions on it when I get home tonight.

So, uhm, any clues on what I should be shooting for during this turn? I don't really have much time left to do it. . .

Took a look at the save , im not sure what we are going to do here since there is no discussion whatsoever , if eitch player follows his plans then we got 5 diffrend views playing a game and none of the goals will really work out.

As for Mitchifor , nice job grabbing blue dot and scouting out the map , although I disagree on the builds we are following .
Delhi is building a granery at size 6 with no hope of growing over size 6 for a very long time so this is mostly a waste of hammers at the current time unless we keep on whipping Delhi to shorten the regrowing a bit.

While TGW is a decent wonder I really dont see the use of the wonder for this particular game , we have no barb problems whatsoever and we wont see a great spy since Delhi will get a GP before the GSpy is ready.
It would have been decent if we wouldnt have stonehenge or if it had been build in Delhi.
It would be nice if a religion would spread into Delhi for a temple so we can hire a priest to speed up the GP progress.

What we really need is workers , our new city needs lots of improving , Delhi could use some mines and there are tons of forests to be chopped.
Besides that the pyramids and a small amount of axes for defense is needed.
I dont see a decent spot for another city atm.

The questions that rise are
1) What economy will we use , SE/CE/Hybrid?
2) What are we gonna do now?
3) What are we gonna do with Victoria ?
4) What tech plan will we follow?

My suggestions:
1) Offcourse this depends a lot on if we get the pyramids or not , with the pyramids I would go for a SE although we lack the ability to farm untill Civil Service and lack food in general.
2) I would get the pyramids asap , other strategy is build/whip mass army of axes/swords if we get iron and kill Victoria
3) Considering we are locking in with 3 city's and have bad lands aswell we have to kill her , the question is when.
4) I would have skipped IW and went straight to math as Trynthlas suggested to help chop the pyramids asap , it was also right on our path to construction .
For now , finish IW , and get maths .
