Proud to be an American!
Hello! Hello! Hello! I have just joined CIVFanatics, and I felt that an SG would be a good way to break the ice. I am winning fairly regularly on Monarch and recently won an EXHAUSTING AW game on Monarch. I'm told that is at the difficulty of Deity, but strangely I've never won at Emperor :p.

This game pits us, the brave Japanese (I felt it was fitting, considering my user name) against a wide sampling of Eastern nations.

CIV: Japan
OPPONENTS: India, Korea, China, Ottomans, Arabia, and Egypt
DIFFICULTY: Monarch
WORLD SIZE: Normal
EVERYTHING ELSE: Random

Roster:
1. The American Pickle himself, Tsukemono5!
2. betazed
3. Nick014 (SKIPPED until further notice due to vacation)
4. rubberjello (SKIPPED until further notice due to vacation)
5. OneFastWarrior

What version, PTW or vanilla civ? What patches are you using? From you location I guess you are in the USA, so you must be using the latest patch.

Anyway, I'll join.

I almost always win on Monarch and have a good probability of winning on Emperor.

And I love Japan. Check out my Bz1 - Warfest :)

I'd like to sign up for this game, but I need to know what patch you're going to be using. Also, is this just a regular game or AW?

This is PTW 1.21. Regular style game. Glad to have you aboard :). I'll post the start screen in a few minutes.

Here it is. I recommend we stick our worker on one of the mountains and if it looks good, found. Do rivers confer their bonuses to cities next to them? I'll play 40 turns once I get confirmation from you two.

I would like to take a whack at this one. Its been a while since I played the Japanese.

I'm a pretty good Monarchy player, but I lose quite a few on Emporer, and I've never won Diety. :o

Present SGs are : Enders Game 1: The Training Game Competition - Team 2 and Amirisan1 German Emporer.

(Btw...that "coast" tile to the South-SE looks very intriguing. I would vote sending the worker South see if it is sea or a lake. A city founded on a river and the coast usually rocks!)

Cool. I'll play today and post the turnlog and the save, and we'll go from there.

Blah, the 1.21 patch complicates things. For some reason it won't install on my computer (yes, I do have the American version). I can try it again, I've already reinstalled PTW, but unfortunately can't uninstall civ3 as I have misplaced the disc. Sorry guys, if I can sort it out I'll be glad to come back on board for this one.

Hey, I would be interested in this game. I have never played a sg before, and, also I have not won above the lowest level(although, I have been playing on the top 3 levels recently and just went back to warlord and I will win on that this time)

I could really use a game like this to help my playing ability

If you'll have me I would love to give it a try:)

OK, sadly, I am unable to post my report today due to what veterans of the United States' schools know as the "gaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!" level of homework. I'll try tomorrow. But I did play the first 20 turns. I think rather than 40-20-10 we should just do 20-10 to make life easier for those of us with finals (i.e. me).
OneFastWarrior, glad to have you :).

Thanks Tsukemono5 for having me in the game, I know that I will learn alot from this game and hopefully I won't mess anything up during my turn's:D . So, being new to SG's I had a couple of questions

1. After you play the 1st 20 turns is it just 10 turn's for everyone after that?

2. Do we upload the game here or pm or e-mail?

Thanks and good luck to us;)

1. Yes
2. Upload

OK, I'm sorry about the delay, but I had an English paper that wanted work :(. But here 'tis.

4000 BC
I send the worker one tile south to investigate. The water is a one tile lake. I found on the starting square.
Thoughts:
Since the immediate area is very rocky, I don't think it's a good place to pump settlers. So I'll use Kyoto as a military training ground, and hopefully find a food rich site to settle at and pump settlers from.
I click next turn.

3950 BC
I set research at 80%. Pottery due in 18, 1 gpt. Worker mines the grassland it's on. Why? Simple: under Despotism, we don't profit from having an irrigated regular grassland. So mine grassland and BG, and irrigate plains. At least until Republic or Monarchy. We'll have to take advantage of our Religious trait to build cheap temples and switch governments when it is profitable to; using Democracy in times of peace and Monarchy in times of war.

3650 BC
Worker finishes mine, starts road. Warrior finishes in Kyoto.

3600 BC
Warrior heads SW.

3500 BC
Worker finishes road, moves to mine the BG.

3450 BC
Contact Arabia via an exploring warrior (?). Abu has Pottery, but ours is due in 3, so I see no reason to trade. Kyoto builds another warrior, starts one more for MP and garrison.

3350 BC
Pottery research finished, BW dialed up at 10% sci. 5 gpt.

3250 BC
Kyoto finishes warrior-->settler. Ordinarily, I would build a granary first, but since we're going to make another site a settler factory, it would be a waste of shields.

3050 BC
Abu has BW. Wheel for BW, because he won't take gpt and lump sum is not even close. IW in 40.

3000 BC
Worker has mined and roaded BG, heads to hook up spices.

Red dot is prospective settler factory. Can be moved 1 SW if we want to get both cattle immediately. White dot is an AWESOME site. That baby is going to give us a few wonders down the line. When the settler finishes, send Kyoto's warrior along as escort. Build a spear for defense in Kyoto, and a warrior to explore to the east. Then temple, then whatever :).

The Save

The game is afoot. And if those in my God Shrine would like to add some thoughts, feel free ;).

2950 BC: Contact Arabia. He has no techs that we do not have so no trading. We see a blue border too.

2900 BC: Arabia asks us to leave. We oblige.

2850 : Settler forms. I am vetoing the city positions shown earlier. And sending him to settle on the forest as shown in the map below. There are two reasons for this. (a) The new city will have access to fresh water and we will be able to irrigate all the cows and this will become a true settler factory. (b) There will be overlap with our capital and thus we will be able to MM the mined tiles to control whether we want growth on shields in any turn.

2800 : zzz

2750: COntact China. We trade Wheel, Pottery, 60G and 3g/turn for Masonry and Warrior Code.

2710 BC: Settler settles. I start a temple. To finish in 10 turns. City to grow in 10 turns. That means we can use the other cows also after 15 turns.

2670 BC: Contact with Egypt. They have no new techs.

2590 BC: zzz

2550 BC: Spices connected. Send the worker towards the new city to irrigate cows.

2510 BC: zzz

2470 - 2350 BC: zzz. No new techs are available yet. I have been checking everyturn. A settler is forming in our capital. The next palyer can determine where to send him.

I have been checking every turn for new techs to come up to see if there are any trading oppurtunities.

Map below and save game in the next post.

By the way, have we decided what kind of game we are going to play? I ask because opening game strategy depends a lot on that. Are we despotic warmongers, peaceful traders, competitive scientists?

In short what type of game do we want?

Wow! Good turn. Your playing style is somewhat different than mine, but I can see your points. I didn't see the third cow, or I would have put Osaka in the same place as you.
Thoughts for rubberjello:
I know you're looking greedily at the coastline east of Kyoto. Restrain these base impulses. We need to expand towards our foes and fill in backlands later, especially since we seem to be on a strangely-shaped landmass and sandwiched between China and Arabia.
My idea for game plan:
Domination. We play nice and grab land until Chivalry, while building up horsemen. Then upgrade into samurai, switch from Republic to Monarchy, and wipe the floor with our neighbors for a while, then peace, switch back, repeat @ Mil Tradition. We should also build up libraries and universities so we can start doing our own research after GA and leave the AIs in the dust :).
BTW, I'm hoping for an Honorable game. Declare war BEFORE moving into enemy territory, don't break deals on purpose, etc. If you don't know what I mean, then go to http://www.realmsbeyond.net/civ/etactics.html
Good luck to rubberjello! :hammer: :hammer: :hammer:

:) Great. Looks like this is going to another mini warfest. :)

Warfests > all.
AW > Warfests
Now if the people in my God Shrine got together and played an OCC Deity AW, THAT would be an AWESOME game.

An OCC Deity AW?????? I would readily :worshp: anyone who wins that. Personally, I think that is unwinnable.

@rubberjello: IMHO we should rush a granary next in Osaka. With a temple and soon to be spice connected (plus this is monarch), I do not think we will have a happiness problem.
