Hey Gedemon, long post ahead:
If I remember right, you said about a gajillion pages ago that you needed grid locations for G&K Civs and Natural Wonders for the Standard-Sized Map. I really want to be able to play your mod on the standard-size, so I took the liberty of guessing at those locations. I almost tried fiddling with the XML, but only tonight did I learn how to open World Builder so I'm leaving that for another day. Baby steps here.
Approximate Civ Starting Locations (Much less controversy here!)
Austria (40, 29) - may have to actually put them at (40, 28) to avoid being too close to the Germans.
Byzantium (44, 24) - This of course causes a freakout for the Ottomans. I noticed in the XML that you have an alternate start for the Ottomans in the Caucuses somewhere. That's cool. Not good for the City-State Yerevan, but the Armenian-Turkish conflict is a mess for another lifetime.
Carthage (35, 20) - I borrowed your note from the City States mod
Ethiopia (46,13)
Sweden (39, 38) - borrowed your work again! Of course, this is too close to Denmark. Le sigh. If you move Sweden to a weird (39, 39) and Berlin to (40, 33), you could move Denmark back to (37, 35).
The Huns (49, 30) - I picked this location based on your preference in the other map sizes for a location on the North Shore of the Caspian. Like we've discussed before, the Huns could start in a thousand different lands. I actually like this option because it lets me pretend the Kalmyks are in the game!
Maya (8, 22)
Netherlands (36, 22) - Way too close to Berlin. See also the Celts note.
The Celts (33, 36) - Both of these final two cause a major freakout for England. I guess the English just aren't playable with either the Celts or the Dutch on this map size. If it must be, it must be, though I suppose an individual end-user could move things around a bit if they
really wanted a given combination in the mod. Alternatively, you could move the Celts up to (32, 37) and the English down to (34, 33), but that still leaves the Dutch out in the cold, and with Germany far too close too.
A good alternate mix could be the Celts at (31, 37), the English at (34, 34), and the Dutch at (36, 31), turn (36, 32) into Coast, and move Berlin up to (39, 33).
This mix is a little geographically inaccurate and kinda puky to look at, but it removes all the conflicts. It would even let you put Austria at its correct (40, 29). If you put Berlin at (40, 33) instead, and then Sweden way up to (39, 39) that would let you keep this combination and move Denmark back to actual Denmark at (37, 35). Though at this point, Berlin is now somewhere in Poland which is a whole other can of worms
Frankly, I don't think this should matter since no one in their right mind should want to be
that space-pressured in this game. Still, part of what I like about your mod is that the end-user
can throw in whatever Civ-combination they want, so maybe some moving-around will be necessary? If you feel like doing even MORE XML coding, I suppose you could put in more alternative start locations like you did with the Ottomans?
Another great part about your mod is the option to randomize resources, so if we/you do go moving around start locations, no one has to fret over balancing those quite right (at least, not at this stage).
Approximate Natural Wonder Locations
Cerro de Potosi (15, 11) - I don't think this is a G&K wonder, but it wasn't on the Cordiform map anyway?
Mount Kailash (56, 25) - this was a tough guess. The map gets way lopsided out there.
Sri Pada (61, 16) - cuts Sri Lanka in half, which would make life for city-state Colombo rough, but that's their problem!
Uluru (72, 10)
Mount Sinai - (46, 18) Oh boy. This one is a bear. I believe this location to be most accurate, but it cuts off the possibility of a Sinai canal. Putting it anywhere else either cuts off land access between Africa and the rest of the world, or just looks weird. I'm fine with not having a Sinai canal on this map size, and really the AI isn't smart enough to figure out the need for one, but I know some people might not like this result.
Approximate City State Locations
I mean for the YnAEMP City States mod-mod. I haven't done this. Do you have a list of city states you want in, or should I try this too? As you know, G&K added a lot of new ones that could be fun to include!
If you want me to reconsider any of the locations for wonders or civs, just let me know!
Edit: It occurs to me that the Byzantine start would be too close to the Greek start too. Can't win them all, I guess.
