[TSL] Yet (not) Another Earth Maps Pack

But then again that doesn't really matter in a game where Aztecs nuke armies of Viking mechs while Nebuchadnezzar blasts off to Alpha Centauri in his rocket ship. That's one very specific thing to be bothered about in what is basically Silly History Anachronisms: The Game: Now With Carthaginian Machine Guns

Yes, but the point of a TSL map is to add a bit of realism in that alternate history. Next step is to make a True Starting Position & Date mod... There won't be an option to remove USA then, and an immigration UA would make sense...

I've been playing these maps with Gods and Kings recently and I'm enjoying them more than ever. That said I've had to abandon the Giant Earth Map, as each update for the Mac version of the game seems to have made it run worse and worse.

Anyway, I've been playing the large europe map and I've a few possible improvements:
Firstly, I think that Songhai could do with a starting location; I know it may not be accurate but it would help to contest the african continent a bit more. Currently I play with raging barbarians, otherwise Carthage and Egypt can quickly dominate the game, as even with the relative disadvantage of the terrain they can become very powerful early on. A similar start could possibly be added for China, and possibly Persia as well, to further increase competition in some of the less populated areas of the map; in my particular case I've found that after a slow start Arabia has become a powerhouse in the later game after dominating the entire middle eastern area, and are well into the atomic era while I've only just managed to catch up to the modern era. More competition also benefits the use of Espionage, as with it being (stupidly) city-based it can take a very long time to find a good target when a rival civ has 40+ cities!

Secondly, some of the new civs could do with more favourable terrain for their bonuses. Specifically, the Celtic Faith bonus requires forest near the start, which I don't think the map has quite got, as the forests need to be immediately adjacent to a city to have any effect, and it doesn't currently seem to work if the forest contains a resource either (very annoyed by that, not the map's fault though). Also, Amsterdam is a bit tricky as the Polder is a really powerful tile improvement, but their start doesn't have much marshland, though that said the AI would probably clear it all even if they did. It's a really odd set of bonuses some of the new civs have; means the can get very little value out of them depending on start, and on random maps they're more likely to never benefit. It's a tricky one, as ideally Amsterdam would have somewhere marshy nearby that an AI player wouldn't normally settle, but with Polders they could later benefit from greatly, but I expect that that wouldn't be geographically correct, and the AI would like just settle around it and clear it anyway.

Can you put v15 in the downloads here at Civ Fanatics? I'd love to use the new G&K civs, but am using a mac, didn't download it with Steam, and so I don't think I can download it from the steam workshop.

Please :)

I'd really appreciate if a non-steam download could be posted.

Also... in case it's not posted, can somebody please email me the updated mod w/ city states? Garrett.Ivy@gmail.com

Would greatly appreciate it :)

couple of questions for me. I been playing on this earth map since the beginning of civ 5 and wont even bother playing on another map, that being said I am wondering if the 22 civs limit could be taken out by you so we could use all the civs? Also I would absolutely love it if you can do a mod that i could place starting locations myself. For example if I wanted to place a civ on australia or one in siberia and move around some city states just to make my game more balanced especially for those poor european civs that cant expand anywheres. Lots of room in south america and other spots. Would be awesome gedemon.

See "Customize" section of first post, you can change starting location editing the XML.

Gedemon, I'm imagine you are quite busy, but in case you have the time, could you release your TSL system as a separate mod component?
what you mean exactly ?

I plan to change the code to allow separate mod to add maps with TSL based on the same system if it's what you're requesting.

I don't mean to spam over this thread, but could somebody please release the mod as a non-steam download?

Thx...just tried it out and it worked great. never realized we could manipulate the mod like this. I now got civs starting all over the world which i think will make it that much more challenging. To bad about the 22 civ limit. That really bites. Thx gedemon.

How do you add a custom city state? The guide only talks about the major civilizations. Cause I'd like to add four new city states which will all be in Germany to make it a renaissance game when Germany wasn't unified. :D

Could someone please post soem pictures of this map so I can get a chance to see it before I decide to download it. Just an brief overview of the continets should be enough.

On the front page, click on the spoilers ;)

speaking of the first post...

i notice that the version update isn't quite, well, up-to-date. not that that really matters, but I was curious if the standard version of the map has been updated for reaslistic resource selection and/or G+K tsl locations.

thanks

actual version include : G&K TSL for Giant Earth, Huge Earth and Large Europe, new resources from G&K are placed without realistic constraint.
to do: add G&K CS TSL, realistic placement for G&K resources, G&K civs TSL for the other maps.
