Tupac06 - AWE Continents

Welcome back our fearless leader! I'll play today and you can then have the whole weekend to play.

We are doing nicely and I'll switch research back on and head to education fast. Cavs and new cities also. I think I'll start temples in biggest cities. I guess Sistine hasn't been built yet?? It would be great for us in this AW. Six happy with caths, cities would be happy at size 12 with 0% lux.

Pre-flight check: Why do we have 0% lux, but entertainers in most cities? I raise lux and put people to work. Raise science, theo in 4.

IBT: nothing

Turn 1 (930AD): Cumae: settler->cav. Kill 2 spears in Bengal->raze. Kill bab lb, persian knight. (4-0)

IBT: Two persian knights die. (6-0)

Turn 2 (940AD): Veii: settler->cav, Ravenna: legion->lib. Kill indian archer, persian musket, indian sword, indian archer. Raze Madras, kill spear inside. GET A LEADER! (11-0)

IBT: Kill one knight, lose a cav to knight. (12-1)

Turn 3 (950AD): Arretium: worker->court, Londinium: settler->court. Use leader to rush HE in Gordion. Kill persian knight, indian spear protecting settler. (14-1)

IBT: Lose eLegion on mountain near Brundisium. (14-2)

Turn 4 (960AD): Theo->Education. Rome: cav->temple, Delhi: settler->musket, Gordion: HE->galley. Found Tyrus. Kill bab sword, lose eCav to bab lb, kill 2 of them. (17-3)

IBT: nothing

Turn 5 (970AD): Pompeii: temple->cav, Palmyra: duct->worker. Found Verona. Kill a bab bow. Kill Indian archer and two spears in Chittagong->raze. (21-3)

IBT: nothing:

Turn 6 (980AD): Don't have time to make detailed report anymore... Found Mediolanum. Kill two. (23-3)

IBT: Kill two, lose two. (25-5)

Turn 7 (990AD): Stack next to Persepolis. Kill four. (29-5)

IBT: nothing

Turn 8 (1000AD): Education->Astronomy. Capture Persepolis with Hanging Gardens. Raze Eridu. Raze Calcutta. Kill 14, lose none, although many cavs redline and retreat. (43-5)

IBT: lose a cav. (43-6)

Turn 9 (1010AD): Raze Lagash. Kill 7, lose 1. (50-7)

IBT: Kill 2, lose 2. (52-9)

Turn 10 (1020AD): Capture Pasargadae. Capture Samarra. Get a leader. Kill 8, lose 1. (60-10)

I took Persepolis because of the Hanging Gardens and happy faces. Captured couple other cities too. They are all finished soon, so no major flipping can happen. Our cavs are effective. Didn't have time to do good MM in the end. Tupac can do that when you familiarize yourself with the game.

Ok I'll take it, have to say I've never researched education when I own the GLB before...

Should play in a few hours

Looking at the map.... WOOOOOOWWWWWWW!
You guys have been absolutely fantastic while I've been away. Also... Look how BIIIIG this map is! We must have close to enough to win via domination just by settling our home continent! I know fully agree on the research past education, I think our whole continent is more advanced than the rest of the world.

Plenty of MM to do, nothing major, just knocking a few turns off or slightly altering our beakers.

I decide I'll only play 7 turns (get us to 1100AD) to get the turns right.

IBT - kill an immortal and longbow on defence but lose a cav (2-1)

Turn 1 - plenty of stuff finishes, rush a worker then settler in Persopolis to help bring the pop down. Cut science back to +34gpt, Astronomy still in 2.
Lose a cav killing a musket, 3 pikes and a LB and I capture Gordium (it has no culture). (7-2), kill 2 spears in capturing Dariush Kabir (9-2). Kill a sword and lose a cav (10-3). the city captures have elevated our income to +46gpt, up 12gpt on the start of the turn.

IBT - zzz

Turn 2 - kill plenty of badies for no loss (17-3), the only thing slowing us down is the lack of bodies. And boy, talk about and uphill battle when it comes to actually settling all the land

IBT - Lose an eLegion (17-4)

Turn 3 - Astronomy comes in, switch over to Banking. Rush Sistine's in Cumae. Kill a pike and immortal and capture Hamadan for no loss. (19-4)
Kill a pike, 2 LB's and a knight (23-4). Kill 2 pikes and an immortal and capture Arbella (26-4).

IBT - Berlin completes Copernicus' Observatory.

Turn 4 - Kill a pike and capture Kish (27-4). Kill 2 spears and an archer and capture Bombay (30-4).

IBT - lose a cav (30-5)

Turn 5 - Kill an immortal and 3 spears (34-5). Lose a legion but kill a pike (35-6)

IBT - India and Persia land troops next too each other beside an undefended city... cheeky monkeys!

Turn 6 - kill 3 LB's and 2 immortals (40-6), kill the invaders (42-6). Kill a musket and spear and capture Samaria along with 4 workers. Kill a sword and capture Hyderbad (43-6). Kill 2 spears and capture Dacca (45-6).
Pocket a bab settler pair (46-6). Kill 2 pikes and a LB and capture Ashur, take a look at F3 and we are UNDER our unit count! Wow. Better order up some more cavs :mischief:
Kill a Persian LB with an eLegion and pop my first leader (47-6). Wow, we don't have anything worth rushing! Send him to the front to form a new Cavalry army.

IBT - zzz

Turn 7 - Banking comes in, set research to Physics in 5 (vetoable).
Kill 2 Pikes and capture Uruk, a musket and a pike and capture Antioch (51-6). Fat finger a move of a cav and he may die next turn, sorry.

And thats it, we're back to correct turn numbers. All builds are vetoable although I would suggest that we start filling in land now rather than later, keep building cavs, and capture, don't raze. I suspect that we can wipe out Persia, Babylon and India in the next turnset. Babylon may take a little longer but not much. I also think we should go straight for the IA looking for rails and Communism, on land like ours Communism could be either awesome or terrible I'm not sure... or we could get economics, I doubt we'd have much opposition in getting smiths. We should also rush a caravel I think and go looking for the other nations, get them to start spending their income on troop support and we might be able to slow down whatever research they are doing.

here's the save, good luck to the next player!

Rome is building the Pentagon but also a pre-build in case we didn’t get a leader. So it can be changed to Smith’s if desired.
Went exploring off a few points no luck finding any one. I think I lost 3 boats Magnetism will be in soon so we might wait for that.
I have one settler on a boat to settle that small island off our east coast.

The Save View attachment Tupac06_1200AD.SAV

All the ultra-corrupt towns should build settlers and workers (rush the settlers) until all the land is filled, then just workers. Lets irrigate all of the corrupt land and make science farms, admittedly not as good in vanilla as in c3c, but useful nonetheless, we might be better off with taxmen farms i'm not sure but we'll see. Also having an ungodly number of workers means we'll be able to RR our lands quickly when steam eventually comes in.

We have our own continent! Now we need to decide how to win this. If we want to win by domination, we need to fill our island and build culture to widen the borders. No need for a lot of military. We don't need the AW's CxxC spacing anymore and can fill the island more loosely.

If we want conquest, I don't know if we can fill the whole island. Then we need a big military and navy and find the others after magnetism. I don't think that they have rifles yet, so our cavs are good for quite some time.

Looks great. :goodjob:

I do not know whether I can pick it up soon as my internet connection at home is broken. I will inform you later today as a technician from German Telecom should come today.

Still no technician showed up, although I made an appointment two times, so I am still without internet access at home. I need a skip this round. Sorry, guys.

I got a crazy idea on the bus on my way home from work, I'm going to switch to republic!! That's right, you read correctly, republic. This is an AW game you think.

But my reasoning is this:
- We are destroying the babs soon and we are actually going to have a long peace in an AW game.
- We have 4 luxes and own the Sistine, we can fight war weariness for quite some time.
- We have the game won now with the huge continent so why not.
- We can fall back to communism if this fails.

And playing now...

I won't make a detailed log, as I'll be in anarchy most of the time...

Capture Nippur in 1230AD and we are at peace in an AW game. We don't know anybody. Found New Rome, New Veii, New Antium, New Cumae with remaining settlers.

Become a republic in 1260AD. Heavy MM after this. 1270 Magnetism in->ToG. Found New Neapolis.

So we are a republic now. Still need to fill our continent and rush libs to get bigger boundaries. I don't think we need many cities from other continent to reach domination limit.

Nice thought, Merlin.:goodjob:

Basically we should be able to remain a republic quite a long time as we do not have any units in foreign territory. Even if we get new contacts soon we have to make sure that our ships end their turn in neutral waters when scouting the other continent to avoid war weariness points.

Very good idea merlin!
not sure if we do have enough land to get to domination (might want to check mapstat) but if we don't what are we going to do about getting there?

I don't think that we'll reach domination with our continent only. But one idea behind republic was that now we can build a HUGE landing force. Like d-day in Normandy. Lots of galleys, frigates to cover, tons of cannons, cavs and muskets/rifles. Then when we land, we could take many cities in just 3-4 turns and win by domination. Or raze them all and win with conquest.

I'm pretty sure that we are tech leaders at this point. The other continent might not have cavs yet and no magnetism, so we have some time to build our troops. We could go max to steam, industrialism and nationalism. Then factories in the biggest cities, rail our continent with slaves and troops, troops, troops.

I didn't have max science on, because I needed money to rush some settlers to fill the gaps, but we could go max science now.

With Magnetism in finding the other Civs will be easy. When we meet them Trade for there WM and we will know everything we need to know for the invasion force and a good point of attack. Also we will know how far we are away from Domination. I suspect we have the European civs with Germany being the powerhouse. We all ready have quite a large military now. It really is just organizing them and transport over.
Unless Merlin filled it we have an empty Army. That can be used for razing and defense on the new continent.
We have one last major Offensive and this game really is in mop up duty.
