Turn Discussion Thread

The promotion is Woodsman I, however Vesta is fortified on a jungle hill, correct? The barb should have extremely low odds. Maybe it is best to save the promotion for quick healing?

I WB'd this quickly. It is not a perfect match because I did not try to match the difficulty level or number of previous wins over barbs (if that matters). Without promo barb had a 0.7 chance, with promo it had a 0.5 chance according to the combat log. The vs barb bonus was reported as 10%. I think that's going to result in the percentages being 0.9 without promo and 0.7 with, if we don't have that 10%.

1. We don't need the healing if our warrior is dead.
2. If we win the combat with 30/100 LP, we get 3 turns with promoting, a promoted get perhaps more LPs, so it will be only >3 turns healing we get.

I prefer promotig now.

With Arcturus getting it's own Archer, Vesta will be doing fogbusting duty. A Woodsman promotion will help to ensure she can keep doing that duty. We have alot of jungle to be taking care of.

I agree with azzaman. With the barb having less than a percent chance of succeeding, promoting before the battle will have almost no impact on our chance of living, or the health we end the battle with. It makes a lot more sense to save the promotion until afterwards and use it to heal up. I'm also all for woodsman, it makes sense for a fogbuster to have, and if we get enough exp for the 2nd promotion that extra movement could be helpful.

Well a difference from 0.5% to 0.7% could be seen as a 0.2% difference, or it could be seen as a 40% increase in the risk of death by not taking the promotion.

I do agree it probably won't make a difference, but since I like arguing, I'd also question the value of it for healing. We're likely to survive on a fair few hitpoints, where the promotion healing won't help much, we're unlikely to need to heal any faster than we will without the promotion, and on average if we take the promotion we'll survive on a few more hitpoints in the first place.

Turn 77 - 950 BC

On our homeland Hell_Hound and settler have gotten on Galley and are heading toward Pallas. Caveman still working on Cottage should be done next turn. Husch has begun chopping 1W of AC. We can see a Persian Immortal, and the Barb city has not been taken yet on Andromeda. AC has had a border pop and WB moved to fish. I put WB for the next AC build but not sure on what tiles should be working, the Copper or the unsettled fish tile. Also checked Micro and didn't see anything for Sirius so I put Granery for growth as a placeholder.

On Bode TWO Barb warriors are surrounding Vesta, they look to be heading toward Arcturus. Arcturus will complete Archer next turn, Woodsman I promotion was given in light of two Barb units threatening it.

I would work the Iron hill in Alpha Centauri until the fish tile is improved next turn. We then switch AC to work the fish and grow.

I agree with the granary in Sirius. Although, I'm beginning to think we want to get a settler to the horse site ASAP. But we need an Axe/Archer/something there first. All in due time, I guess.

man, i really wanted to argue the promotion on vesta some more -- i missed out on the first go round :(

Yeah, I would have argued that it was precisely this sort of situation where we want the promotion for quick healing. In any case, I think the northern barb is probably going to head for Arcturus or the copper mine, rather than Vesta.

We can see Mavericks culture too. However it looks like it's from their home island. I wonder if that copper city is actually somewhere other than Bode?

Turn 78 - 925 BC

Caveman moved 1w to start road. AC is now working settled fish, Husch will finish chop in two turns. The Barbarian city to the east remains in Barbarian hands.

Notice that the Mavericks work boat is on the same tile as the CDZ galley. They must have detoured to explore the channel.

Should we send the Archer in Arcturus to scout to the south? If so, I would suggest heading SW and then following the coast.

I'm back home, so I will try to update my test save and catch up on what's going on micro-wise.

Edit: Also, note that it has been ~10 turns since we first made contact with Mavericks, and no sign of that trireme yet. Either they didn't really have one following the WB, or they turned it around when we opened borders.

I agree with letting the archer defend the city. It does appear that the WB went down the channel.
