Turn Discussion: Turns 1-19

Sounds good. Thanks for all of this testing. Testing is not my thing.

Our worker finishes a pasture this turn, so I doubt anyone will want to work any other tiles than the two improved sheep tiles. The micro only gets more hairy when we go to pop 3.

I truly do not expect anyone to object working the sheep, just flying the AMAZON democracy flag :D .

What are we going to do with our worker. It will take 2 turns to get to the silver and then we will have to wait one turn. I say it's worth it, but IDK what you guys think.

We probably want a cottage on the grassland eventually, so starting a farm might be useless... maybe one turn of mine-building on the empty grass hill would help us, but I am not sure if we still have the extra turn if we move Bob to the hill.

Sitting idle for a turn is fine with me... Bob deserves a few decades of rest!

If we could build a mine on the empty grass hill we could build one on the silver. ;) The issue is not having mining yet.

If we will ever want a farm there (I don't know, maybe we want to cottage over the farm after we've used the farm for growth) then it makes sense. If we are sure we won't build a farm on that tile, then it's just as wasted as sitting on the hill doing nothing.

One question if you put one turn into a farm and then cottage the tile, will the tile still be 3 turns away from a farm or does the building of a different improvement delete progress on other improvements? I may test this. Not that we would likely want to farm over a mature cottage, but this would be a little more reason to say that turn is not as wasted as sitting around doing nothing.

To answer my own question: a turn put into a farm would still be counted even if we built something else there. While if we never complete the farm it is wasted, at least it has the potential to be useful somewhere down the road. Standing on a hill for a turn has no potential to be useful in the future. I'd rather put a turn into a farm than just sit on a hill enjoying the view. Work, work, work. His name is Bob the Builder, not Bob the Sightseer. :)

I don't see a problem giving him a vacation. We won't end up farming those tiles anyway, and he won't get another day off for about 3000 years.

Should we make a poll on this? I say it's too small of an issue to take the time to poll.

Should we dare begin the discussion on what type of economy we will run :gripe: . Since there is a chance a farm will go there and starting this farm would not impede building a Cottage then I say why not?

I've always been confused, what exactly are different types of economy.

I do not want to turn this into a discussion on the economy it is a more medium term strategy. My point is let's not rule out that we may build a farm there, especially since starting one will not hinder building a cottage later.
@R20 there are some great articles in the strategy and Empire Management sections of this site that layout alot of different economy types. The 2 most popular are the cottage economy and the specialist economy.

 Ouch.... that was stupid :D

Then my conclusion would be: a turn of doing nothing is wasted, a turn of building a farm is maybe wasted and maybe useful... so if even one single AMAZON thinks there is a chance we might want a farm there, I say: let Bob plant the first seeds already.

Since a majority of AMAZONs would like to see Bob get a vacation as Turn-player it is my duty to act on it. So Bob will sit on the hill and wait a turn for Mining unless the tide has shifted before I play the turn in about an hour or 2.

Well done Lord Civius. IMO, that is exactly how to handle that type of situation as a turnplayer.

Incedentally, I would have liked Bob to spend 1 turn farming, just in case, but I support Lord Civius decision as turnplayer. I agree with r20 that this is kind of minor. IMO, Nothing is too minor for a poll per se, but THIS issue seemed too minor for me (or any one else apparently) to ask for a poll on it.

As far as economies go, I think our land plus our non-commercial trait steers us into a Specialist Economy (SE), rather than a Cottage Economy (CE), so we may end up needing a farm rather than a cottage... but I agree that that is something that should be discussed in a long term thread not here.

I just realized something... it's time for a new thread!
