Turn Discussion

Civstats has said that MS have finished their turn, but the the turn thread has not yet been updated...?

Krill according to civstats clearly they played their turn. they just didn't end in

If that was you trying to log in just now, Memphus, I've logged out.

who cares? They didn't even ask to pause the game so what is the problem?

Tell you what, Cavs, do you want to open negoitiations about selling us tech for our Oracle tech? Because if MS can ignore the rules for their benefit then we sure as hell should.

How did they ignore the rules? And shouldn't it be brought up here if they do so?

The rules state that each team has 24 hours to play the save in; that was the second time MS broke that rule (if they had asked for a pause then it would have been legit). (Rule 4.1)

And they don't even get a slap on the wrist.

If they want to more time to discuss things in, then they can ask for a pause. I would like to see the game admins start to enfore the rules that we all agreed to.

It isn't really clear that those are 24 hours and not 24 game hours(which are obviously longer than the real hours) though...

24 hours are 24 hours; 1 second has a definate length in time, whether the server measures them correctly or not is a different matter. The rules state 24 hours to a turn, and taking longer than 24 hours is breaking the rules.

Enough trolling in the public thread. If you want to complain to an admin then do so. I don't put this in mod tags because it's my team that's being trolled -- I'll report it and let GA handle it if it continues.

That's trolling? Admittedly the first post may be; the rest are related to the game rules.

That rule could be better stated, but the problem with using the server timer is that a player could just log in and log out constantly, each time adding 2 minutes to the clock, giving theire own team a much longer turn time without having to ask for a pause, thus circumnavigating rule 4.1

I posted a rule clarification proposal.

Nobody would really extend the time by repeatedly logging in and out. What's actually happening is we're looking at the pitboss timer and occasionally taking most of it to decide what to do.

Overall the entire game is doing almost a full turn every 24 hours, and depending on what time zone the turn player is in, one team will logically take the most time on every turn. Worst case, a team gets the turn immediately after the turn player's availability window and it takes almost 24 hours to get the turn around. Even worse, if all the turn players availability times come out just wrong, every team takes 24.

This phenomenon is not unique to team games. Mathematically every pitboss has a pace setter -- queueing theory dictates that this must be the case. Sometimes you get lucky and every player has compatible availability times that cause a faster than average turn progression, but that is extremely rare. Pretty much every game I've ever been in that had international participation ended up with a reliable 24 hours per turn minimum, sometimes more.

It's natural to try to "blame" the pace setter -- but if you don't have one pace setter, another will take its place. Knowing this is inevitable, I find discussion of it distasteful.

Edit: Speaking personally here, and not ex officio.

And that purely hypothetical possibility is a problem how?
