Turning off building improvements w/o tech

It really bothers me that I can't leave my workers on automated mode during the early part of the game or they start building things that only go at 25% the normal rate, it normally makes me go straight for those techs at the start of each new game and it gets repetitive.

Isn't there a way to turn this off somehow?

Next patch workers have brains installed. So it shouldn't be an issue anymore.
I don't suppose you could provide a vague idea of when that'll be? I was thinking of trying to figure out how to modify it myself, but I wouldn't even know where to begin.

If testing with these changes I am polishing up now goes well, I imagine that the next patch will be incredibly soon. But it depends on how swamped Vehem is at that time and if he will be able to toss together an installer for it and release the thing.

To mod it yourself, you can go to XML/Units/CIV4BuildInfos and add a tech prereq to each item in there which matches the TechDiscount.

Oh, thank you. That's rather easy.

Does this include the moving/changing/fixing of the barb civs? Or is that Later On Down The Road?

This one is a major playability issue which I KNOW I can fix/improve on. The barb move is a "maybe it'll work" and it just clears up a nuisance about reloading (and MAYBE it'll help stability). So this is just the improvements for now.

As a sidenote, it's more than a nuisance about reloading, it's a major MP quality of life issue for those of us who play. Whenever anybody hiccups in any way, everybody's got to reload the mod, as opposed to just letting that person rejoin.

You can't just have the one person rejoin with base FfH either. But at least with base FfH you don't have to completely restart the entire program, just have everyone exit to the lobby. Though the overall time disruption isn't too much longer for most people (do to cache loading)

Isn't it enough to simply reload the mod from the game menu (advanced -> load a mod)?

That works fine, yes.

is it possible to turn off the building of improvements without tech? my AI is (on prince) not able to build ANY improvements. I really like the idea of it, but I won't play deity level any time soon, therefore I really would prefer to switch this off.

oops

If it's at any point over the weekend, drop a note on the team forum to say it's "done" (so far as being ready for some community feedback) and I'll get it bundled. Need to test a few more things out myself in the meantime...

I will give feedback...

So I can chose to build something early at an increased rate but the AI nor Automated workers will won't?

Perfect!

If you do the edit, then AI and yourself both return to the "old style" and need a tech in order to build, and always build at a set rate.

If you mean after the next patch, both you AND the AI can build anything from the start of the game, but the AI is smart enough to understand the benefit of building something quick right now and then coming back later and building something which is better, but takes longer.
