Turnplay Log

Turn 123 - 200AD

Ok, I send our Warrior back to NeedaName to defend the city against the barb Axeman. I really think it will be a futile effort. Even with our Warrior's city and hill defense bonus, he will be a strength 3.1 versus the barb's strength 7.5 with it's melee bonus. The city will need an incredibly lucky RNG to survive those odds.

Meanwhile back at Zapotec, our promoted Axeman still has 3 turns remaining before he is fully healed. I'm holding off attacking the city so that we can get this guy 1 more xp and be eligible to build the Heroic Epic.

*****************************

Our western northern Galley continues its cruise along the Hawaiian coastline, finding nothing of interest to report. Meanwhile, our Warrior is forced to turn north in his quest to find a western passage.

Aloha's Galley comes out from under the fog and sails into our waters off the coast of Twaddle. Our Spearman detours around the city, so as to not be seen by the Galley.

mtdg200adalohagalleybb3.jpg

*****************************

Balderdash -> The city has now grown to size 7. I move the new citizen from a plains mine to a cottage tile for the extra food. The city will grow to size 8 in 4 turns. Taoism has been spread to the city.

Hamburger -> No changes. Whip the Settler in 2 turns.

Treacle Cottage -> No changes.

Brilliant -> No changes. The city has now grown to size 3 and will grow again in 3 turns. The Forge can be whipped at size 6.

Twaddle -> No changes. The borders will expand next turn.

NeedaName -> The city will most likely be lost. So, I move the one citizen from the 3F corn tile to a 1F3C coastal tile. We will at least get to keep the beakers after the city is gone.

How about "Colts Win!"
Thanks rub it in. :sad: How about Fist in....
I'm not sure anyone cares about the Colts outside of the US (and Chicago).

I like Bollocks myself.

Ole Sexy Rexy pretty much mailed it in in the second half, eh? That Holly is some football pundit.

On the game, that city is lost. I would rather save the warrior to fogbust or act as an MP. Tis a suicide mission to put him in the city. No chance to upgrade him to an axe?

Don't recall the exact amount, but it was something like 180 gold to upgrade him to a mace. Axemen are no longer available.

Hmm BCLG jumped me today and wanted to know when we were sending construction, as they thought we would send it as soon as we got it :mischief:. I told him we would send it over, thus completing our deal.

did you say "sending it over soon" or "now"?

Don't recall the exact amount, but it was something like 180 gold to upgrade him to a mace. Axemen are no longer available.

Can we do this? If we don't have the cash, we could hit epsilon up for a loan. It depends on what the lost turns mean to us, both in the production of a new settler, and the city taking longer to come online.

Turn 124 - 225AD

Start by sending Construction over to Aloha before I forget again. :blush:

MTDG_225AD_SendAloha.JPG

Note in the above screenshot that Aloha now has Music. They also received the free Great Artist that went with it. Once they research Drama, the GA should be able to lightbulb Divine Right and give them a religion.

*****************************

Over at NeedaName, that barb Axeman is now outside the city gates. He will attack next turn. Unfortunately, borrowing some cash from someone for the upgrade won't work. There is no time left to get the cash and upgrade the Warrior. The question still remains, though, do we take a chance on the RNG and try to defend the city, or does our Warrior high-tail it out of there? Of the 5 votes, 2 are in favor of running and 3 are in favor of defending the city. So, we defend.

mtdg225adbarbaxeoe4.jpg

Meanwhile back at Zapotec, our promoted Axeman still has 2 turns remaining before he is fully healed. But since he is now 80% healed, I decide to march him towards the barb city instead. If he gets one more kill, we can build the Heroic Epic.

*****************************

Our western northern Galley continues its cruise along the Hawaiian coastline, finding nothing of interest to report. Our Warrior in the west continues following the isthmus to the north.

Aloha's Galley continues sailing along our coast. It will meet up with our Galley heading towards the fish and ivory isthmus location. Meanwhile, I've had a Spearman marching up the eastern isthmus the last several turns. He has finally arrived at Epsilon's city.

mtdg225adseeepsilonhf2.jpg

*****************************

Balderdash -> Plan A was to build a Monastery and Missionary training. Instead, I opt for a 4 turn Settler. I really don't like this idea, but we really need a city down on the eastern coast.

Hamburger -> No changes. The Settler for the ivory isthmus can be whipped next turn. Confucianism has spread to the city.

Treacle Cottage -> No changes. The city will grow to size 4 next turn.

Brilliant -> Food uber alles! No changes. The Forge can be whipped when the city hits size 6.

Twaddle -> No changes.

NeedaName -> No changes.

*****************************

Epsilon has revolted to Theocracy. That would be a nice option to have right about now. :sad:

Don't recall the exact amount, but it was something like 180 gold to upgrade him to a mace. Axemen are no longer available.

It may be too little too late (I couldn't check the boards for a couple of days) but could we upgrade to a spearman? What would it cost? What would the odds be with the defensive bonuses?

Turn 125 - 250AD

NeedaName ... no longer needs a name. :cry: Looking at the combat log, our Warrior had a whopping 1.1% chance of winning that fight. :eek: He did put up a good fight, though. He brought the barb Axeman down to 58% health.

On the other side of our continent, our promoted (and still wounded) Axeman steps inside the borders of Zapotec. He should be able to whack a barb Warrior and reach 10xp next turn. I'm planning on keeping the city around, though, for troop training. Unless, of course, anyone objects to this notion.

Meanwhile, a barb Warrior steps out of the fog southwest of Treacle Cottage. An Axeman has arrived at TC and will be able to defend the city.

*****************************

Our western northern Galley continues its cruise along the Hawaiian coastline, finding nothing of interest to report. Our Warrior in the west continues following the isthmus to the north. He also reports that there is nothing of interest to report.

Aloha's Galley continues sailing along our coast. Our own Galley, which is heading towards the fish and ivory isthmus location, crosses paths with Aloha's Galley. Meanwhile, our Spearman has seen Epsilon and returns to Brilliant. Screenshots are in the foreign affairs thread, in case you missed them.

*****************************

Balderdash -> No changes. We have 3 turns left on the Settler. Then, this city will be placed on Missionary duty.

Hamburger -> The Settler is :whipped: for 1 pop. We should have a nice overflow for next turn. I'm thinking Maceman. We lose our Engineer. We have 18/300 GE points accumulated.

Treacle Cottage -> The city has just grown last turn. Our newest citizen is assigned to work the 2 food / 5 commerce wine tile. The city will grow again in 3 turns.

Brilliant -> Food uber alles! No changes. The city will grow to size 4 next turn. The Forge can be whipped when the city hits size 6 or 16 turns ... whichever comes first.

Twaddle -> No changes.

NeedaName -> No longer exists.

*****************************

Unfortunately this report contains no pretty pictures. Just not enough excitement going on this turn. :yeah: So, I will leave you with this screenshot of our demographics. This is what our GNP would look like if we were to mash down on the accelerator.

mtdg250admaxgnppg7.jpg

Not too shabby, eh? Don't get too excited, though. It is not really a valid comparison since Epsilon isn't running at max commerce, either. Once we get a Library built in Balderdash and get our population up, though, our demographics should be looking much better. ;)

Honestly, though, that crop yield ranking of 5th place really bothers me. We are hitting the food pretty good in most of our cities. I would have really thought it would have been higher. That 1st place ranking of 93 is Innovia, I believe.

I feel stupid on the warrior. Sorry. Seeing the GNP with max commerce makes me feel much better. Good work Conroe!

In the pot luck Epic, I had one of my northern cities as Rome fend off two axe attacks. My only defender: a single warrior. I laughed on the first one and cried tears of joy on the second (and then got the city some defense).

Turn 126 - 275AD

A barb Axeman has been trained in the city of Zapotec. He gets whacked with 65% odds. Meanwhile, our promoted (and still wounded) Axeman needs only one more point to reach 10xp. He gets that by whacking one of Zapotec's two Warriors. He can now be promoted to Level 4 and we are eligible to build the Heroic Epic. I'm thinking of giving him Medic I and Medic II promotions. Thoughts?

mtdg275adwhackbarbska3.jpg

Meanwhile, that barb Warrior down at TC is one step closer to our Axeman.

*****************************

Our western northern Galley continues its cruise along the Hawaiian coastline, finding nothing of interest to report. Our Warrior in the west continues following the isthmus to the north. He also reports that there is nothing of interest to report.

Aloha's Galley continues sailing along our coast. Our own Galley, still empty, continues is voyage towards the fish and ivory isthmus location. It will rendezvous with the Settler and an Axeman on the other side of Twaddle.

*****************************

Balderdash -> No changes. We have 2 turns left on the Settler. I thought about whipping it to save a turn, but I really hate to whip a bureaucratic capital. :( Don't know if that is a wise choice or not, as this city really needs to be on Missionary duty.

Hamburger -> The Settler is completed and the overflow takes two turns off a Maceman.

Treacle Cottage -> No changes.

Brilliant -> Food uber alles! The city has just grown to size 4. It will grow to size 5 next turn. :lol: The Forge can be whipped when the city hits size 6, which should be in 3 turns.

Twaddle -> No changes.

*****************************

A Great Scientist has been born in a far away land. Meanwhile, Aloha has finally decided to switch to Slavery.

Also, I meant to dial up Epsilon and ask for Compass. But, I forgot. :blush: Should we send them a message and ask them to send it the next time? Or are we still trying to keep our dealings with Epsilon a secret? I also notice that Aloha has NOT traded Construction around, yet. Would be nice to cut a deal with Innovia before we get beaten to it by Aloha ...

Turn 127 - 300AD

I dial up Epsilon, first, before I forget again. I'm sending philo over to them, this turn. There have been 2 Great Scientists born in as many turns. Maybe the other side will think Epsilon got one of them. Who knows, maybe they did?

MTDG_300AD_EpsilonTrade.JPG

It can also be noted in that screenshot that Epsilon has built another city this past turn.

*****************************

The barb city of Zapotec contains a lone Warrior. I'd rather keep this city around for troop training, so we won't be able to attack it until the city trains another barb.

Meanwhile, our promoted (and still wounded) Axeman receives a Medic I promotion. We need to promote him once more before we can build the Heroic Epic. Does anyone have any comments on my suggestions from last turn?

Meanwhile, that barb Warrior down at TC is one step closer to our Axeman.

There is a reason that you shouldn't use Workers as fog-busters!
Spoiler Check with your Cardiologist before pressing :
Fortunately, he still has movement left ...

mtdg300adbarbaxegg8.jpg

No, I'm not using the Workers as fog-busters! ;) The Settler being equiped at Balderdash will head to the former site of NeedaName. Our Workers will be on-hand to quickly chop out a Caravel.
*****************************

Our western northern Galley continues its cruise along the Hawaiian coastline. Of possible interest may be that Aloha's latest city is sitting undefended. Our Warrior in the west continues following the isthmus to the north. He reports that he will soon be able to proceed in a westerly direction again.

mtdg300adciaozv4.jpg

Aloha's Galley continues sailing along our coast. Our own Galley, still empty, continues is voyage towards the fish and ivory isthmus location. It will rendezvous with the Settler and an Axeman on the other side of Twaddle.

*****************************

Balderdash -> No changes. The Settler is due next turn. After that, Missionary duty!

Hamburger -> No changes. The Maceman is due next turn and the city will also grow back to size 6 next turn.

Treacle Cottage -> The city is developing nicely. :whipped: the Granary for 2 pop. The city is now size 2 and will grow to size 3 next turn.

Brilliant -> Food uber alles! The city has just grown to size 5. It will grow to size 6 in 2 turns, at which point the Forge can be whipped. After that, the city will get a Library (in 4 or 5 turns).

Twaddle -> No changes.

*****************************

Another Great Scientist has been born in a far away land.

I like the idea of using the barbs as a promo farm. Since iron is not available the need for high level promotions is a huge advantage that I don't think the others will think of.

Turn 128 - 325AD

I dial up Epsilon and ask them to send over Optics. This will complete the first phase of our deal with them.

MTDG_325AD_AskEpsilon.JPG

We are 3 turns away from completing Paper. In the meantime, Epsilon has dialed down there research quite a bit. They are accumulating 34gpt ... which should be about 30% or 40% on their research slider.

*****************************

Nothing new going on at Zapotec. Just waiting for the locals to train a new dummy. Our Axeman does get to play a round of whack-a-barb down at Treacle Cottage, though.

The situation is a little more tense southeast of Balderdash. Another barb Axeman, this one healthy, has stepped out of the fog. We probably get to kiss goodbye the never-completed road to Brilliant.

mtdg325admorebarbaxeou9.jpg

*****************************

Our western northern Galley continues its cruise along the Hawaiian coastline. Our exploring Warrior in the west finally gets to turn back to the west. We probably don't have a shot at the circumnav bonus, but he will keep pushing west as long as he can.

Aloha's Galley continues sailing along our coast. Our own Galley, still empty, continues is voyage towards the fish and ivory isthmus location. It will rendezvous with the Settler and an Axeman on the other side of Twaddle.

*****************************

Balderdash -> The Settler is complete and the city begins a Taoist Monastery.

Hamburger -> One Maceman complete and start on another one. After this one, I'll probably knock out a Worker or two.

Treacle Cottage -> The city completes a Granary and begins work on a Forge.

Brilliant -> Food uber alles! No changes. The city will grow to size 6 next turn, at which point the Forge can be whipped. After that, the city will need to whip a Library and a Harbor.

Twaddle -> No changes.

*****************************

Our newest Settler heads off in the direction of the former city of NeedaName. It will be at least another 3 turns before the city can be founded. Is everyone Ok with the placement of the city in the same spot?

I was thinking of naming the city Leonidas, after the great Spartan general. Leonidas died in battle where the Spartans were hugely outnumbered by the Persians. Kind of reminiscent of how we lost the city in the first place.

*****************************

Innovia changes civics to Organized Religion and Caste System. :hmm: It looks like they want to get busy with that Philosophical trait of theirs.

I also notice that Aloha has built an Aquaduct in one of their cities. Surely the city does not have health concerns, yet. I suspect they are making a run for the Hanging Gardens.

I assume that we'll be trading maps straight up with Epsilon. I would suggest that we not trade maps with anyone else.

Leonidas sounds like a great idea!!

What Tubby said. I'll need to look up Leonidas now. :D
