Turnplay Log

Havent been around this weekend, bossman! We cant outresearch Inno and Aloha both. What is the tech situation with Epsilon?
Our tech agreement with Epsilon has us researching Steam Power and Physics (among other techs) and we get to keep the free GS with Physics. Since we are so far away from Steam Power, my guess is we can kiss the GS goodbye. We also lack quite a few turns to popping a GS to even bulb Physics. I'm also wondering if the 15 turn cease fire was Aloha telling us how long it would take them to research Physics and Artillery? :dunno: Honestly folks, I'm not sure how we should proceed ...

I'd like to say I have a pearl of wisdom to share with you all, but I'm just as baffled. We've been caught between the frying pan and the fire the entire game -- at least the path we took gave us a possibility for success, but if we lose the race to Artillery, it won't matter.

I think the one thing we must do is try to control the seas. If we can control the seas then Aloha can only invade by sending their army in a tight area, making it easier for our artillery to defeat their forces.

We only have popped 2 merchants IIRC (or did we finally get an academy in the capital?), we should be at 300 gpps for the next one; I know the bar is low on a gp. Why not go to caste/pacifism, and run 6 scientists for 6 turns somewhere to highlight most of Physics? Is that not the highlightable tech atm? Do we have biology?

What about the old draft push? The trouble is that it'd decrease research even further, but maybe we need to take a risk.

We are not even in the race for Artillery. Go back and have another look at our tech agreement with Epsilon. Artillery isn't even on the list. Epsilon wants to go for Infantry.

As for controlling the seas, we will lose control over the next couple of turns. Aloha is capable of whipping a Frigate each turn out of their HE/GT capital.

I think it is around 500 or 600, not sure ATM. I know we've had 2 GM's and we bulbed philo and astro with 2 GS's. Right now we're running 2 scientists and an engineer out of Brilliant. Don't recall, but I was thinking it was somewhere around 30 or 40 turns before the next one popped.

Do we have biology?
No. Nor do we have Scientific Method. But we can get it from Epsilon as soon as we finish Steam Power (8? turns). Of course, the free GS from Physics will most likely be gone by then.

What is the food situation and how many specialists can we run in the best food cities? Pacifism is 9 gpps/turn per specialist, so surely we can find a couple places to run 6 scientists and pop out two scientists at 10 (500) and 12 turns (600) from now. Get steam in, (set to artillery?), trade for biology, and highlight physics/recoup one scientist.

Er, we dont have SM huh. Does Eps have Biology? Isnt that the next highlightable tech after SM in vanilla?

Everybody has SciMeth but us. Biology is on the list for Epsilon to research. No clue if they have yet, or not.

Aloha wanted a 15 turn cease fire to upgrade. Maybe we should counter with a straight up peace offer. :dunno: Use the upgrade as an excuse. Then maybe some of our diplomats can resume talks with these guys. We can take a page out of Epsilon's book: "sure we'll join you ... soon ... real soon" ;)

The city screens are attached ...

I didnt look at the last few. No city with 3 food bonuses eh. We can run 6 scientists in Leonidas (-2 food), 5 in balderdash (eek) and HE city (-1 food), 4 in a couple of others.

This would give us scientists (assuming no surprises, like an engineer/merchant) at 10 turns, 14 turns, 16 turns, 23 turns, and 25 turns.

Trade for Sci Method and Biology, 2 scientists for physics and finish it off, and that leaves 3 for electricity and 1 for Fission if we get the free Physics one.

Sounds like a good plan! :goodjob: Now, what do we do about the war?

Actually with Biology we can squeeze out a few more scientists. We will need to be in position to farm that one unimproved grass tile by Balderdash, among other things. But we can then run 6 there as well.

Turn 210 - 1500AD

War weariness is unchanged:
+1:mad: in cities > 6 pop

*****************************

Innovia has passed along the secrets of Steel to their Aloha allies. For some odd reason, Loco was not a beneficiary, though.

Aloha also did another upgrade of some sort. Their gold is now down to 311 and they are accumulating more at a rate of 45gpt. Whatever they are upgrading costs somewhere in the neighborhood of 110 gold.

*****************************

Well, looks like I did something stupid last turn ... and boxed in two of our Frigates along with a Galleon carrying our only three amphibious Cavalry. :gripe:

Our Frigates have only a 32% chance attacking. So I decided to give Aloha a preview of our invasion fleet ...

*****************************

No city production occurred this turn. I revolted to Pacifism and Caste System. Troop costs have increased by a little over 50gpt as a result. We are in anarchy for 1 turn. I would have included Mercantilism, but that would have resulted in a 2 turn anarchy. It is still an option, though.

I'm not sure if we are still planning on honoring our deal with Epsilon or not. But if we are going to do some tech trading, we probably ought to start negotiating with somebody ...

Hey Team, I'm not really sure what the plan is or what we are supposed to be doing (other than hiring a bunch of scientists). I could really use some help here, as the save is going to be back to us pretty soon.

Along those same lines, I sent a PM to Robi D asking for a peace treaty in exchange for upgrading. I don't know if he will go for it, or if you folks even agree with it. :dunno: It just seems rather pointless to press on without any sort of plan ...

I think we're at a stalemate with Aloha. If we can let Epsilon fight for awhile I think that should be helpful. Honestly, I'm at a loss in this game. Things look pretty dim without backstabbing Epsilon.

I'm sorry to do this to you, folks, but I am resigning as turn player.

All of this drama in the main forum is just too much for me. I really hate the idea of quitting. It's not something that I do lightly. But in the end, this is just a game. And a game is supposed to be fun. This one isn't even remotely fun for me.

Another reason to step down is the allegations made by Aloha in the main forum. It was me that negotiated with them and I am the one that was pushing for the patch. I have sent a PM to Ginger Ale asking for an investigation. If the admins decide that Piffle broke the rules, then it will be me that will need to be sanctioned.

Gah! They are just annoying, I could have told them we get less of a Redcoat with the patch forever ago if that was the sticking point. How hard is it to read the patch notes? I didnt think we much cared about it. Epsilon opened up that whole can of worms in the first place.

If you need a break its understandable. Surely someone can play if we patch. Hopefully you will get the bug to come back and take back over.

Well, I don't blame you for feeling like that, Conroe, and you have done really well, btw :hatsoff: Aloha have just been petty and hypocritical... banging on about us using the patch to our advantage while they hold the game to ransom for extra units or hammers, just unconscionable and game destroying behaviour.

:hatsoff: Nice work Conroe. Not easy with a bunch of deadbeats like me  Hopefully, with the game patched to 1.74, participants will come back out of the woodwork. At least now we'll be able to look at the save to get a bearing on whats going on rather than pouring over all the threads.

Can someone else give the save a try?
