[TUTORIAL] Reskinning Vanilla Graphics

Well I coppied entire file Civ5ArtDefines_Wonders.xml and at the end /I've added new entry for blue mosque

The city is visible until I start building wonder
 
Sadly, building graphics cannot be changed via mods yet. See this thread for the full detail.
 
Thank you. That's a really bad news - another set of roadblocks. It explains why I couldn't figure it out why it doesn't work and saved couple of other hours to trying things that doesn't work. :(

Well Firaxis just destroyed my first mod . Luckly I did only reskin. If I would model entirely new wonder probably it would be also the last mod for civ5.

I think I'll release what I have without the graphic of the wonder appearing in the city map - like standard building without art define - I hope it'll work.

I have now gotten to the point where I can view my reskin in nexus viewer but I am stuck trying to get it in a mod to check and see it in game.

When I get to the point in this tutorial to change where the art defines are supposed to point to my new skin I am confused. " edit the entries for the three different warrior art defines to point to redcoat.fxsxml like this (the entry originally being copied from the one for the Minuteman): " can u clarify? Three warrior defines or minuteman? Or both?

I see it looks like you've figured this out now. Using the warrior defines is just an easy way of testing the reskin in game since Civ 5 lacks an in-game World Builder. If your reskin is for a new unit you will need new entries in the unit and unit member art define XMLs.

I should really update this tutorial to use the later version of NexusBuddy which should make getting your reskinned unit into a mod much easier. The latest NexusBuddy is here, but I'm not sure the Reskin a Unit option is fully implemented yet. I'm still using this version which is good for reskinning and other unit related tasks.
 
Did anyone try to make a reskin of a naval unit? I tried doing a reskin of the frigate but I can't see the reskin in Asset Viewer or in the game. I have adjusted both the diff-file and the dmg-diff-file. But when I open the reskin in Asset Viewer or load it in the game, the original dds of the frigate is loaded.
 
I have downloaded the Indie tools and they are in the Nexus/x86 Directory but when I try to use them they crash instantly. Any idea why ?
(I am on Win 7 with a 64bits system).

The link is broken and I far as I know, there is no other way to open a gr2 file at this time.

Good news, it works.
Less good news, the definition is so low, than barely no one can imagine, there is a dragon with 3 heads on the shield of the spearmen...

(128x128) pixels for the whole skin is really low definition... Does someone know if there is a way to have a little bit better than that ?

I am terribly jealous of the wonderful skins of Bernie, danrell and Nutty !! :p

Hey it seems a little bit better !! At least changing the definition of the picture does not seems to affect the application of the texture...

Can a unit creator confirm that ?
 
I know this thread is rather old and all, but I really need a new link to get theGrannyMaterialHacker, not even the mediafire link works now... Could anyone help?

This is an old thread, and that method isn't accurate anymore.

See this thread, where whoward69 has collected all of the art defines for the base game in a moddable format.
 
How do I replace a texture in the game with another one? My mod loads ( VFS is on ) an edited texture with the same name as the vanilla one but it does not work.
