Two questions - Out of curiousity

Emperor, though I've been trying Demigod recently.

My favorite civ has always been the Greeks, ever since the original Civilization. I was pleasantly surprised to find out they were generally considered to be one of the best civs for Civilization III, and I'll admit I played with them exclusively for a long time before I figured it was best to move on and choose some others. I generally prefer civs with the scientific or industrious trait (sometimes both, of course). Before Civ III, there was no benefit in choosing one over another, and I was stuck with a Civ II mentality.

As for the barbarians question, with the exception of my early days playing the original Civilization (and then Civilization II), I've always played under the highest setting for them.

Level - usually WarLord. I get enough challenges at work all day and don't need more at night. Sometimes I'll play Regent on the weekends.

Favorite - depends on map type. Dutch or Byzantines when there's lots of water, Iroquois or Russia on drier terrain.

Barbs - sedentary. I put them in the class of "nuisance", right up there with pollution, but playing at the lower levels I like goody huts.

level- regent, soon to try next level up (can't remember what it is)

Favourite Civ- i'd have to say carthage, i just really like numid mercs. :crazyeye:

Barbarians- depends if im expansionist or not. i hate barbs munching on my scout

Considering your avatar, no surprise! :)

 But if there are no barbs there are no goodie huts either...

What level are you on?

What is your favorite civilization?

And do you prefer having barbarians on the map?

Don't know if a similar post has been made before.

1. Deity. But I'm more of a builder, I really have to polish up my warmongering skills so it's important for me to start with some food bonus such as wheat or a cow to build a settler factory.
2. I normally choose agricultural civs for this level: Iroquois, Celts, Sumeria, and my beloved Dutch ...
3. I normally don't have barbarians.

Which level? Um, I switch around! Depends on how much of a challenge I want. :p But usually between Monarch and Deity... I can win on all of those levels, but sometimes I just like to have a nice 'easy' Monarch or Emperor game for a change from the pretty much constant-war Deity. ;) Haven't had a chance to try Sid yet.

Favourite Civ: Babylonians. :)

Barbarians: Always. (Actually, never played in a game WITHOUT them!)

What level are you on?

Regent, though I usually modify it so that I don't get any bonus vs. barbarians. (see below)

What is your favorite civilization?

My favourite civilization is probably the Indians. Though there are better choices if I want to push the envelope, I can't stand not being able to change governments according to my immediate needs. I've always liked Commercial since I tend to get a large enough territory that it really makes a difference.

And do you prefer having barbarians on the map?

I usually set it to Restless, though Raging can prove interesting from time to time. Like I said before, I tend to make it so that I don't get a bonus against them. It changes the game enough that each game can be quite different. It also gives the Great Wall some significance.

I'm thinking of getting really masochistic and making the barbarians Spearmen instead of Warriors, but that might go a bit too far...

That'd be quite interesting though... you're talking about replacing the basic barb right, not the advanced one?

Yup, just replacing the Warrior with a Spearman. The Horseman will still be the Horseman, because as we all know, speed kills.

Or annoys, in this instance. ;)

I'm between Monarch and Emperor at the moment. I can beat Emperor, although not not by a large margin like I do in Monarch.

My favorite civ is the Aztecs, although they're not the "best" civ...they're just fun for me to play.

I always play with barbarians on.

Emperor level, been playing Russians allot. Science plus exploration can be kind of fun, except that exploration means sometimes getting huts that turn directly into cities and I hate that. If I get it I've sometimes just reloaded from a save (I choose where to put my cities:p) Or otherwise work on disbanding the city back into a settler which is a time consuming hassle.

Level: Currently trying to master Deity, only won a few
Favorite: I like all of the tribes, but the Mayans are the biggest rush for me
Barbarians: Raging, unless circumstances dictate otherwise. On high level games, it may be best to go sed/none, because the AI gets to fight them as if Regent.

Yep... the "raging barbarians" tactic only hurts the AI more than you on the lower levels. ;)

Attempting to master Monarch (only on my 2nd game there)
Germans, Romans, Greeks, Russians in that order. Although Roman is my current obsession.
I like Barbarians on, but sedentary or roaming. If I have to deal with them, so do the AI and hopefully the AI loose some gold/settlers/etc to them or at least are distracted by them from time to time.
