Today it has been going nuts. Occasionally, it will flicker, go black for a second, and then go back to the screen I was on. It just started today, and has flickered about ten times so far. Does this mean anything? Should I be worried? Should I get a new monitor?

I'm running Windows XP SP1. Monitor is an hp pavilion mx50. It has been in use since October 12, 2002.

Try disconnecting it and then reconnecting. If that doesnt work click on the little buttons on the monitor and select the degaussing option. If that doesnt work then press some buttons on your phone and call tech support for hp

What type of monitor is it?

It might be best to get a new monitor if it's an electical problem that's a few hundred to fix...

Could be a failing capacitor.

Yeah that used to happen with my old monitor until it went caput :( . Try fiddling with the power connection at the back? It does sound like a power thing to me.

Well, it's affirmed. The monitor burned out two days ago. Now I have a 15" LCD monitor, and it's awesome. Just glad to know that the thing is over and that it won't be flickering, dirivng me nuts...
