So maybe nat it should be, that golden age from Taj is fine.
That's the decision I eventually came to. My thinking is that we really want to race to astro/nat/rifling/steel or something like that for a war of expansion.
As for techs that help us along --banking is the biggie. Astro is also very good--we get the UB with an artist. Con let's us build a colosseum in the capital, MC gives us 1 happy with the forge.
The problem I see with DR, is that I'm not sure we want to invest in all those religious buildings, and it's a high sunk cost--not just the useless DR, but very likely giving up the taj, also some chance of missing it, and delaying banking.
By going lib-nat, we should be able to revolt to banking in a GA with the taj.
920 change Orleans to Uni, whip Uni in Paris--missionary.
980 run to lib at 100%.
Found Avignon on Snowly's site.
1010 GG born.
1030 lib-nat set research to MC
1040 Uo S in --uni.
1060 MC in--set research to machinery at 0. We want that whether we go banking or optics first.
1070 AP built--buddhist, sistene built. Prophet born--we build shrine.
1080 Colosseus built--wow that's late.
unis are in we start on Oxford.
Slave revolt in Washington

I'll hand it off as we have a decision to make about optics vs. banking. I'd be inclined to go banking--that'll just be a big boost to economy.
Note that I took the corn back to Washington from Tours--once we grow Washington that can go back. Since we're indu I built forge before Taj in Washington.
I'm thinking HE in Washington and Globe in Reims?
I notice there's a border pop to the SE--we have Izzie there I think. If she had optics we'd have contact:
