After installing the 2nd patch, I now get an error message at start-up saying that I had an unhandled win 32 exception in civilizationV.exe [5180].
I'm using Vista, and normally have to use the directx9 setting to play.
Any help greatly appreciated.

The game doesn't start, right?
 mmhh
2 options (both relatively standard ones)
- Check the file integrity. Maybe something got corrupted during the download, so make sure that the files are allright.
- Clear the cache. If it's directly after the patch, then there might be old files in the cache, which result in some conflicts with the newer version -> delete Documents\My Games\Civ5\Cache, and try it again afterwards.

Emptying the cache was no help. Don't really know how to test file integrity.
From some topic searching, it seems that this is some type of registry error. Is there any way to download the patch again?

Checking the integrity should download corrupted files, if needed.
To do it, go into Steam -> Library -> games -> Civ5 -> properties -> local files -> and there should be an option for a check.

Else there is no option for a separate redownload, only a complete reinstall is possible.

Btw, both the links in your signature are not working.
