Uninstalling... from a defunct drive (??)

I had my game on an external HD, which kicked the bucket a few days ago.

Tonight I decided to reinstall, and everything (apparently) went fine with the vanilla game. However the BTS installer says I already have the latest version installed, and that I should uninstall it before anything else.

How am I to "explain" the system the situation?

Um, I tried deleting the keys with regedit, if it's what you mean, and it did not work.

I sure hope so. I deleted every reference to the game I could see, then ran a couple of registry cleaners full swing for good measure.

EDIT:
And I stumbled into the solution.
I tried re-plugging the defunct drive in, which in turn more or less slowed the system to 1/10th of its usual speed as it used to happen since the drive broke. I took it out again... but this time I could uninstall!

Thank you ori for your patience and help. I don't think I would have thought of re-plugging drive k to the machine again without your emphasis on the InstallShield being the likely culprit. :)
