Immortals are decent units, but improved spearmen (even upgraded to pikes) are of less value than the others on the list. Besides, I have usually reached civil service by the time I start spamming units.

I just don't build enough spearmen practically ever to make them worthwhile, especially since they don't get good until rifles unlike warriors, who after their first upgrade are better than Immortals/pikes will be for centuries.
