Truly professional unit!

Well done!

Thanks dark sheer, this is a great unit, and probably the most important and usefull so far- I should have a Napoleonic rifleman done soon to compliment it.

Here is a possible Civilopedia entry for this unit if anyone wants it

#PRTO_Infantryman
^
^
^[Infantrymen] are powerful defenders.
#DESC_PRTO_Infantryman
^
^Military strategists, most notably Prince Maurice of Nassau, a great Dutch military teacher, developed drill - the preparation for war by prescribed movements and formations - to increase efficiency.
^
^The invention of the bayonet in 1670 gave infantries little reason to keep pikemen, and infantry units employed muskets and bayonet exclusively from then on. The Bayonet is recognized by many as being
one of the decisive weapons of the 2nd millennium. In the 18th century when muskets were lighter and easier to load, bayonets were universally placed on the ends of the barrel and the importance of the pikemen diminished.
^
^Smaller tactical groups of infantrymen facilitated quicker rate of group fire with minimal mutual interference. Lines dropped from 8 to 10 in the 17th century to 2 to 3 at the end of the 18th century.
With the advent of more modern infanry drills Infantry ceased to use a long line formation because it held the risk that enemy cavalry might attack the flanks or rear and "roll up the line". The hollow square was adopted because it could repulse a $LINK<cavalry=PRTO_Cavalry> attack from any direction. A formation of resolute advancing infantry, bayonets drawn, screaming their battle cries in the 18th century struck fear in the hearts of the enemy and often caused the opposing ranks to break and run.
^
^The use of the bayonet waned with the advent of more accurate $LINK<rifled arms=PRTO_Rifleman> in the mid 19th century, which were able to pick off advancing infantry from a distance. The bayonet charge was all but eliminated with the appearance of $LINK<Infantry=PRTO_Infantry> with automatic weapons in the 20th century, although they were still issued to troops and were still used in battle (c.f. the Japanese in WW2). Bayonets, albeit much reduced in size from earlier models, remain a part of the Infantry's weaponry up to the present day.
^
^The Infantryman unit is basically the Musketman equipped with Flintlock & Bayonet and drilled in Infantry procedures.

in a whisper in DS's ear: you forgot the fidget.flc :cringe:

As I said in the original thread, I forgot about the victory animation as I was converting from Leader animation and Leader do not have Victory (Leader just die :p ). So at the last moment I have to reverse the fortify and combine it with the fidget to make a flowing Victory animatiom. ;)

Thats OK. :D

I just replaced the French UU with this unit, and it looks good.

I made the old musketeer into "Arqubussiers" ( A.D.M of 4.2.1), a gunpowder unit upgrade for the swordsman.
Just because I hate swordsmen in the middle-ages. ;)

Thanks Dark Sheer. :)

Dark Sheer,
is it possible to replace colors in the animations????

Which color do you mean? The color in the palette can be changed. And I believe all the animation uses the same palette as they uses the same 3D model. I am pretty sure of this as the last frame of Fidget is an exact replica of the first frame of Default pixel by pixel. ;)

The robe color is actually the Civ color that changes depend on which Civ you are using (eg. Yellow for Egytp). If you were to change the robe color then the Civ color will be gone. :)

Is it just me, or is the unit actually quite a bit off centre in the game. I am playing a game atm with this beautifully animated unit and smoking mirrors new unit as well, but whenever the musket infantry is attacked or attacks it looks like his opponent is standing on a chair (heightwise).

Other than that its perfect. I guess its not a big deal, but I was curious if anyone else noticed this?

I know that DS, but is it easy to change that color now, when the animation is done?

You mean instead of blue you want say red? Its pretty easy to change since they all use the same palette. Just go to the individual spot in the pallete and change that blue into say red. Save the palette, then open each pcx file and load in the palette then resave.

Simple as that. ;)

animepornstar did this default ones, but never finished it.
DS, it can be made by changing the colors right?

Ah, this one. :)

Yes, it can be done. If you have an animated gif, just open the gif in Animation Shop then save as flc for each of the direction and when saving just use the Palette file for the Musket Infantry so the saved gif will now match to the nearest color in the palette.

After that just open the flc file using flicter to convert it into a Storyboard pcx and you can now edit away in PaintShopPro. :)

Someone mentioned this earlier, but the unit is somewhat off-center in the game. The best way to see it is if he's standing in a city, he appears to be standing at the bottom of the city instead of the middle.

But other than that, he looks great.
