Unit Map

Yeah, that's really useful. Does anyone have a table of upgrade costs as well? Those two would be great cross-referenced against each other.

While on the topic of upgrade costs, it would be useful if 'required resources' for each unit is added into the chart as well. When I first got this game, too often I've attempted to upgrade my warrior only to realize I can't because I've lacked the resources for it even though I had the money...

Excellent summary.

would it at all be possible to note the stats next to the units (Str-Ranged Str-Movement?) Thing is I hardly ever remember the Strenght values cause of the 500 modifiers; and I find the civilopedia very annoying this time around (no actual info)

I actually had a Horseman end up all the way to Modern Armor via ruins in one game through a combination of happy circumstance and great luck. It was a "terra" game and that was the unit I sent to the New world to scout it. Got "upgrade" on about half the ruins in the New World.

After the Cavalry promotion I was thinking "OK, I see now why some folks say this chance on ruins can be game-breaking." The long voyage back disinclined me to bring them home and see how far they could roll, and instead I got this funky story to tell. The Tank stage was kinda tricky, becase Cavalry->Tank was a net loss in strength (Biology was several techs away still) and the barbs had longswords.

I've never upgraded cavalry to tanks, because it's not listed in the Civilopedia. I have oil and combustion, but the upgrade doesn't show. Are there any intermediate techs that I would also need?

The only way to upgrade a cavalry to a tank is to find a goody hunt and it contain a unit upgrade. You can not purchase the upgrade from cavalry to tank.

Great job! Thanks a lot.

I was wondering if anyone could create this same type of flow chart for unit promotions?

Me too, I'm looking for one. All the promotions are listed both in manual and civilopedia, but it's rather confusing and I'm never sure what to choose for the future.

Thanks DGMan, I especially liked that you also included the unit type and civ name of the unique units, instead of just their name.

You should submit this to the Civ5 Downloads Database under Tutorials, references & guides.

I would have to check to be certain, but Im pretty sure the Tank\Infantry\Artillery\AA Gun\AT Gun\Fighter dont become obsolete (in the sense that you can no longer produce them).

I'll update the OP tomorrow once the DLC comes out, but here's a quick summary of the changes in 1.0.1.135:

- Cavalry (Cossack) and Lancer (Sipahi) go obsolete with Combustion
- Lancer (Sipahi) now upgrades to Anti Tank Gun (both goody hut & gold)
- Cavalry upgrade to Tank can now be purchased with gold (previously only available through goody hut)
- Submarine now upgrades to Nuclear Submarine (Submarine does not go obsolete)
- Bomber (B17) now upgrades to Stealth Bomber (Bomber and B17 do not go obsolete)

The strangeness around the Lancer and Cavalry upgrades seems to be all sorted out now. Although it's interesting to note that although the Submarine and Bomber can now be upgraded, they don't go obsolete and are still available through to end game.

Thanks for staying on top of the updates. This is a nice resource and much prettier than the hand-written one I've been using. ;) The Sub/Bomber not going obsolete are probably because of different resource reqs like how you can still build oil-based tanks even after getting aluminum-based modern armor.
