Unit orders issue

I have recently started Civ 5 and can not locate the unit orders menu which is a huge problem for Great People and such for me.

I have looked at other screenshots and it seems people have a menu of commands to the upper left of the unit when the unit is selected. I have no such menu. I have to command all my units through the keyboard command. I can't find anything for commands for Great Scientist or Great Engineer.

What am I doing wrong or is it my system? I am running Windows 7 64 bit, Radeon HD 5900 and have all drivers and Windows fully updated. This is just driving me crazy and I can't find any solution. Please help.

I have since my last post confirmed update of video driver and updated bios, sound card and windows update.

I am using a Alienware Aurora, i7 2.67 Ghz processor, Windows 7 64 bit, ATI Radeon HD 5900, Creative SB X-Fi Titanium sound card. My monitor is a Hannspree 24 inch wide screen monitor.

I think this small button with the arrows above the unit should expand the wanted menu (but not sure about that).

Exactly, this screenshot was taken with the button clicked and what happens is the box to the buttons right opens but expands down into the unit. The top of the box is visible and it is hard to see in the screenshot but there are no icons in this box.

I have looked for days on google and found two other people seeming to have this same issue with no one being able to help them. Right now I just think it is a combination of my system's hardware. I have tried the game with a normal ratio monitor and issue is exactly the same. I have verified all my files as well and they are all good.

This is just so frustrating because it leaves me with no way to command Great Artists, Great Merchants, etc. Does anyone know shortcut commands for Great People as I can't find any on the internet or game documentation? Just afraid I'm going to have to find a way to bepass this menu with key commands as it seems so few have seen this issue .

Uh...okay. I guess you already tried everything with the monitors resolution?

The shortcuts for the commands should be in the manual, a digitial version of it should come with the Civ download or is also available here (or see here for versions in other languages than english).

The unit selected is out of moves. You can't give orders when it's out of moves hence there are no command buttons in the small empty box above where it says longswordsman.

Try a unit that has moves left and post a screenshot then.

The situation is the same with units with movement remaining.

I have tried many things with monitor drivers, resolution and such with no luck.

I have looked in the manuel and can't find any keyboard commands for Great People sadly.

yes, that one has moves remaining and no commands in the box so definitely a problem. I know of no keyboard commands either unfortunately.

Would be interesting to know if it#s a problem with the machine or actually with the game. Not sure what happened if someone else loaded such a savegame.

If I save to Steam I can reload game on another game if I install the game there can't I? If so I will try that to see if it is specific to this computer.

Hi I was having the same issue. Are you using the economy mod by Valkrionn? Seems it died and this problem arises due to the patches : http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=385224&page=38
