Unit preview: Medieval war galley

A medieval war galley, used around 1200-1400, mainly by the mediterranean countries and english.

This is basically a precessor of the galleass warships (and some of you may notice the recemblences). The main difference is, that these ships didn't have cannons. So they will have an arrow attack.
Also now I notice, that there are crow's nests in the both masts, which is wrong - there shouldn't be. So I'll remove them from the finished medieval galley.

Very nice. You are making it difficult on which ships to use for my mod. That isn't really a bad thing, but you have been very productive lately. Do you ever play aaglo or just make units?

That would be an awesome unit and I think I know where I could use it.

Yoda - your phoenician is among many others - like: Golden hind (english war galleon), roman trireme and some sort of chinese junk-like ship.

Well, why not. I was also thinking about making it a bit shorter. Then the one-sailed-version would be very appropriate indeed

[edit]: oh, the wonderous variety of google search. typing "war galley" in the image search results almost all types of sailing ships from triremes to modern yatchs.

On second thought, I don't know if there existed medieval galleys with only one latin sail...? Or can't I just find pics of those? (I returned the Björn Landström-book to the library, and IIRC it had only two-sailed medieval galleys - mind you that it's the best book about the subject - ships from 8000 BC to this date - ever done).

Show me one picture of a one-sailed medieval galley (with latin sails), and I'll do one for you

Looks extremely good! Ever considred doing more "fictional" stuff like ships for the Zulus etc?

I just started on Pov-Ray tutorials and have completed the gold chain so far... Can't imagine that it is possible to do what you do with the program... Really, can't believe it!

I'm not sure how much renaissance galleys differ from medieval ones, but at least they would seem to come also with just one latin sail.

Those people do photographs with pov-ray. I'm nothing compared to them

I have seen it, and nearly can't believe it... can't believe your work neither...

Right now I am experimenting with the CSG objects, and I am gaining hope that I some day will be able to make something, just hopes it wont take too many years...

But it is kinda fun too

I just wished I had some ideas to give you about fictional ships for the Zulus, they don't have a ship of their own yet I believe, at least I haven't seen it in these forums. I will use one of your corsairs for them, but it would be nice with some african flavor...
