Unit Preview: The Panzerschreck (German Bazooka Infantry)

looks great. You really are churning out the WW2 german units aint you!

Nice work; the game could do with an antitank infantry unit.
The common tactic for hunting or defending against tanks from 1944 on was the use of special anti-tank teams, so-called "Panzerzerstörergruppen" ("tank destroyer groups"), an alternative name for the unit.

dude, you kick azz, do me a favor and post some suggested stats for this guy, can't for him!

Panzerzerstörergruppen
But that would represent the wrong militaric size...

In German a compamy is named "Kompanie"

In the Kompanie of mine (a Recon company) there had been 150 soldiers...
The company was divided into three "Züge" (singular "Zug") à la 50 soldiers...
This Zug was divided into a "Gruppe" (group) à la 10 soldiers...

So in German a company is organised:: Kompanie -> Zug -> Gruppe

e.g. in my case "5.Gruppe, 3.Zug, 1.Kompanie, Herr Wachtmeister!" - luckily enough I was a soldier only 8 month :D

A "normal" Jäger Kompany has up to 300 soldiers, a group between 7 and 15 soldiers.

So a CivIII unit that is named "Panzerzertörungsgruppe" isn't appropriate becuase it only represents about 10 soldiers.
and "Panzerzertörungsgruppen" (Plural) wouldn't fit exactly, becuase there is no whole company that includes only Panzerzertörungsgruppen...

A generel german name could be "Anti-Panzer Infanterie"...

In Austria tehy are nemd "Panzerabwehrtruppe" at the moment. (Tank - Defense - Troops)

BTW

in Austria we have "Batallions" wich includes several "Kompanien" (companies) then Züge, then Gruppen.

The command structure loks this way:

"Batallion" is lead by an "Oberst" or "Oberstleutnant" (Colonel)
"Kompany" is lead by an "Hauptmann" or "Major" (Captain or Major)
"Zug" is usualy lead by an "Stabswachtmeister", "Offiziersstellvertreter" or "Vizeleutnant" (Staffsergeant, Chief...)
"Gruppe" is usualy lead by an "Korporal" or "Wachtmeister" (Corporla or Sergeant)

What do you think.. which size a CivIII unit represents? A company?

"1. Legion, 3. Kohorte, 2. Manipel, 1. Zenturie" (Asterix als Legionär )

I have an idea :enlighten:,
I was thinking to maybe add a German soldier that's helping out the unit that's holding the Bazooka, load it with the rocket. :)
Just like it shows in the picture.
If it's a go, this project might take even longer, but we might have a better looking cool unit. :yeah:
What does my TEAM members (and civ players) think?

nonnob3 you are a genius!

I would love such an unit!!!!

I think of a run FLC where you can see two troopers carriing the bazooka over their shoulders...

I think of a kneeing trooper who holds the bazooka, and another one who inserts the rocket...

would be much work, but I swore you it would be worth!!!

.. nonnob3 the :king: of :scout:, :ar15:, :soldier:, :ak47: and now even :rocket3:

I like it alot nonnob. My only suggestion would be to reposition Mr. Helper so that it does't appear that the back blast is hitting him right in the o'l noggin.

P.S. I've attached a possible sound for the panzerschreck should you still need one.

The sound is ok :)
I have tried diff positions for helper...I cannot move him too far away... a little smoke from the back blast blows behind his head won't hurt him ;)
Thanks Polaris.

I like it this way!

Hte helper is maybe a bit under-animated, but this is not negative critic becuase I know how much work this is!!

I think the distance is ok.! In the films they always just jump to the side...

Do you know the german film "Die Brücke"? (The Bridge)
Its a non-color film, I think out of the 50s.
It deals about some 16 years old who have to jopin the Wehrmacht at the end of the war.
They are bad trained, but they got the order to hold a bridge in their hometown against the allies.
All other experienced german soldiers were fleeing, only the 16 year olds remain.
Then some of them are dying, but they killed some Amis too. One Ami-Tank driver calls out "What a Kindergarten!!"

But what I wanted to tell you is, that in the film you can see one of the 16 year olds fyring a Anti-Tank weapon (Can' remember if it's a Panzerfaust or Panzerschreck), and one of his comrades stands behind him, and gets the back-fire of the weapon all over his body, and dies...

It's horrifiying to imagine that thinks like that happened!!!

So - i don't want to spread bad mood here...

Excelent unit! Can't wait fighting with the finished version!

It is a wonderful movie, wonderful cinematics for the time but very dark in context... basically only two of the boys make it out alive only to be told by the Sprengmeister that the bridge they were defending had been ready to be blown up anyway and that all of it was worthless and stupid. And yes, that scene with the AT is quite a highlight- the old man gets it when he wants to stop the 'children' from their meaningless stand...

Hi pi8ch,
well, I only had 5 frames to spare before the "back blast".
I did the best I could. I know the Helper seems kind of fast loading; but think about it: THEY SHOULD BE ;)
That's why they were great soldiers (Blitz attacks :) )

This will be the first infantry rocket launcher unit with two soldiers for this game! :yeah:
Lot of work though....... :crazyeye:

I hope people really like it...if not, I can just use the single Panzerschreck. :p
