Unit Previews: Pikemen

otherwise color and everything else is good.
wow, that's rather suprising
anyway, here's a better preview, the hands are wierd, but it's not noticable at civscale so... :p
the hat and hair were shrunk and the skin shinyness has been reduced to 2 ( I think I'll make it 1 though) any comments/suggestions are, as always, appreciated :D

That Koori pikeman is lookin' good. :goodjob:

If I may humbly request a unit, I'd like a Burmecian Dragon Knight. This unit would not only take an important place in my FF mod as one of the Lindblum UU's, but Embryodead could use it for the rat people in his Warhammer mod, and Tjedge could use it for a Nezumi in his D&D mod. I've attached a reference picture below.

Again, nice job on the units, thus far.

cool, I guess I'll be rendering tomorrow ;)

@hikaro - good pic, but  that will be hard(ish) to model, but, yeah, I could do it :) ...... eventually :p

Well, you don't have to make it EXACTLY like the picture, just reasonably close (i.e. big, mousey ears, rat tail, etc). If you want, I could whip up the spear in Poser tomorrow, and export it as virtually any format (can OpenFX handle .3DS files?), just tell me what you want, and I'll have done sometime later tomorrow.

how about the whole model :p
:joke:

yeah, a the spear would be good if you want to do it, 3ds is good, but try and keep it under, say, 3000 verticies, although a few thousand more wouldn't kill me ;)

I didn't think you could make models in poser

Ha, ha, you're one funny guy.... BTW, what does 3000 verices equal in polygons?

As for modelling in poser, you can make stuff out of primitives, and all that a spear (or halberd) is is a collection of cones, cylinders, spheres, pyramids, and torii. I made the staff prop for my Princess Garnet leaderhead, and a spear isn't too much of a step from that (the only difference really is that the staff has an orb on top, whereas the spear is pointy).

his skin needs to be black. Koori are Australia Aboriginees... Like how you modeled the croc leather armor, though!

@Topgun - k, I'll darken his skin. I thought the armor was actual metal, but I guess not, should it be semi-dark green then?

@HT - actually, all my modeling is done from deforming primitives ;) so I suppose poser would be good for me ;)
anyway, I think polygons are the same thing as "faces" in ofx, if the attached model has 72 polygons, then ~5500 "polygons" would be fine, if it has 38, then ~3000 polygons would be fine. ofx crashes my comp if I have too many verticies/faces so I try to limit myself.

Can I make a request for a Celtic one? With a green and red kilt, Chain hauberk and a surcoat, and, of course a long pointy spear, sort of like a Scottish Schiltron??

I've made a list of the requests in the 3rd post in order of when they were requested :)
Tupi is next, but I still have to render the koori guy (but I'm inventing excuses to delay that :mischief: :p)

Well Dease, I've completed the spear as promised. Your cylinder had a polycount of 72, and my completed spear was just under 3000 polygons, so you should be fine. You could probably bring that number down a bit by welding vertexes in the blade area, but I don't know anything about that. I also used shaded polygons, since I'm not sure that OpenFX and Poser 5 textures are compatible. Anyways, the file is attached at the end of the post, along with a preview. (I rendered the preview in Bryce, because Poser is way too slow).

I think a good generic european halberdier could look something like the Spanish and English pikemen requested (but with a halberd, of course ;)). It would also be cool to get a Landsknecht halberdier. :) For those who don't know it the Landsknechts were German mercenaries who kicked bottom all over Europe in the 16th century.

These pics are on landsknechts, I know one of the guys on the photo. :)

thanks for the spear hikaro :D the OFX simplify command doesn't seem to like it though, so I can't reduce the complexity, but its only 2k verticies so it's fine :)

@mrtn - thanks for the pics, the will be useful :goodjob:

@topgun - is the colour of the armor correct? should anything else be changed?
