Unit: Spec Ops Team

the only way to do it with current editor is to give it movement 2 or 3 + blitz

I was thinking they should get 2 movement anyway, because: 1) they're highly trained, and highly mobile; 2) they just rock. And terrain type doesn't cost them movement points, kinda like the Aztec warriors.

pretty much the specs that you have for your SpecOps team is what i had in mind: airborne, amphibious, good attack points, maybe give them more defensive capabilities(green berets in Vietnam held their camps against strong VC attacks). I guess really the only change would be the graphics. I dont want to tell you how to make your units, but i was thinking either tiger stripe camo, or jungle fatigues(all olive-drab green) and of course their green beret. Maybe add a ruck sack and some web gear. :goodjob:

SpecOps unit in Civ3 doesn't have to represent the US Green Berets, specifically. It is a generic SpecOps unit available to all civs, so the unit graphics do not have to correspond with the uniform of the Green Berets. For example some Russian special units have red berets, while others have blue berets!

Yeah, I know. Rangers have tan berets( not black anymore:( ), airborne units have their own berets, etc. But I have a thing for Green Berets(they kick a$$)

Why not make the beret civ specific color? I was thinking of doing this myself but if Masterjo is going to go ahead and do it all the better.

Also, there is a green paratrooper unit available if the balck is not to your liking.

Just saw Black Hawk Down the other night. Man do the Rangers kick @$$, not to mention the Delta Force boys. Those are some crazy mofos.

I think the origianl paratroopers are in more desert fatigues.

BlackHawk Down was definately a great movie. But I recomend reading the book. I read the book and then saw the movie, and I think it helped to understand a lot of what was going on. Also, it goes into detail about Mike Durants captivity. :nuke:

I'd really love to add this unit, but I'm having a slight problem getting it to work.

What exactly do I add or change in the civilopedia.txt and pediaicons.txt in order to get this unit to work? Would it be possible for you to upload your .txt files, or even better. include them with the mod so that that they can be copied and pasted by the user?

Hey guys.. I'm back from my nap.. yeah it's been awhile.. ive been pretty bz lately.. dun even haf time to play civ III dat much anymore.. Yeah i saw Black Hawk Down too.. Great Movie... pretty sad though..

The Civ Colour Beret is a great idea, and it'll be easier if i use the marines as a base instead of the paratrooper then uniform should also contain a bit of the civ colour, could b a lil badge or even mixed with the camo.. but what will that unit be called?

Come on Guys, Great Idea, Now I Need A Name.

Minute Man, you can use the PRTO_Paratrooper instead of a PRTO_SpecOps.. itz easier..

Hey Master, for the name, go with Green Beret. They are the bast at what they do, guerrilla and small unit warfare. One can see their greatness in their official name: Special Forces. They are so great, that their name has come to be the generic term for all unconventional, highly trained military units. Example: how would you describe the Navy SEALS? As the Navy's Special Forces!

How do i get them in-game because just placing them in theyre own folder in units dosent seem to work

yeah Special Forces will work fine, but dat means there is gonna b a Special Operations Team and Special Forces.. so do i make the Special Forces Paradrop as there alreadi is a Special Operations Team??

Xtasi - open it up wit adobe photoshop and try and fit yur new images in the empty boxes.

Stereophobia - u gotta add them wit the hacked version of the civ dit found in the utility section.. open civ3mod wit it and click rules then units then add...

Hey, this is my first time at adding a unit to the game, so i'm about as slow as a car without wheels. I did everything you said in the first post except for editing the civilopedia text. I was adding the unit, but i couldn't find the SpecOps icon image. I put the large and small pcx files in the units folder, but no dice. Can you help me?

ummm i added the unit, made a Spec Ops folder and it just crashes when i click on it in the city screen... ummm why?

hey guys.. how you guys been? i haven been around fer ages partly because i stopped playing civIII and partly coz ive been xtra busy. I heard there is a new patch to the game and I'm going to check it out. I actually was makin a new civ unit when i left, then i completely stopped so itz like 55% done but still in my computer. I do not think I may make anymore new units, i just simply do not have the time but i hope you all like my units, anyone that wants the units email me at mazterjo@hotmail.com and I will hand over the units to you so you can constantly keep ugrading them and making them look good. I hope firaxis launch a multiplayer patch so we all can play together. I'm out later people. It's time to play CivIII, something I haven't done in a long time.

This is a nice addition to modern warfare. I had a nasty special forces unofficial war go on for over a hundred years. Best game of civ I ever had. I found the best stats for them was att:16 def:13 move:2 and flagged all terrain, blitz, invisible, hidden nationality with operational range of 8 and airdrop plus all the usual flags with a high price tag of course.
With these stats they operated exactly like the spec ops did in Afganistan by hidding in the mountains while darting in and out to take out units and terrain improvements.

Any chance on a SAS unit anyone?

:egypt:

I keep getting the error message that the game can't find the spec ops fortify.flc It's in the spec ops team directory with the rest of the files, any suggestions?
