Sometimes, in a scenario with modified food production, or I have a super-settler unit that flies and has a 42 movement rate, I push 'k' to automate them, and then they go somewhere and right then and there, build a city, where I DON'T want a city there! It's REALLY aggravating! What do I do to get rid of it, without modifying the food production or the superunit. Even my engineers do it sometimes!

I know I could just have it build a settler and disband it, but I want to PREVENT the unit from building the city in the first place.

Automated Settlers are Evil.

It's especially annoying when they just "loop around" on railroads doing nothing at all, and just plain annoying the hell (pardon my language) out of the player.

That's why I have windows. So I can have civ2 and the Internet running at the same time. :D Thank goodness that there is no written law that states that I have to play civ2 in order to post in Off Topic. :D

for ie i like doing settlers work, always terraforming for making a super city with max populaion or max production

Just so you know Plutonium I also automate my settlers in the beginning. I find that it allows me to spend more time expanding my empire but you have to go back in and click on them to unautomate them and I often disband a few at that point too when they start running around doing nothing in particular that is useful.

I can't say that I have ever had the problem of them building a city that I didn't want though. I didn't think they could do that!

I have begun doing that, too.

What on earth is a "supersettler" and how on earth do you give it a 42 movement rate?

I was wonderin' that myself, BA60!

I am way Way WAY to anal retentive to let my settlers make their own decisions! Pluto, de-automate those settlers, my friend. Your turns will take longer, but you will spend those extrat hours in the contented knowledge that your Civ is being all it can be!

So you "cheat" then (i.e edit the "RULES.TXT" file). I thought that it was a type of unit which I havent found out how to build.

Dont you think this takes away *some* of the joys of playing Civ2?

For you perhaps, but not for me. For me, cheating ENHANCES my game experience. If a game has no cheats, I don't play it.

Now you see this is a fine example of where the noob/rook line can be drawn.
:joke:
PE, you realy need to stop relying on cheats and play the real game, You've never realy played a game untill yuo've had a few losses. That's how I handle new games. I'll play though in a kind of lazy, haphazard style, not bothinging with any refined stategeys or cunning ploys. I'll play like that untill I hit the point where that style just won't cut it, and I loose. After that I start to devellop my skills to overcome whatever obstacle I'm faced with and start to realy enjoy things! If I never hit that wall that forces me to use a bit of planning and forethought, then it's not much of a game at all.
