i suddenly felt that we need a thread for useful knowledge :p

i start with this:

synthetic vitamin c are useless! (well it's still useful to know ;))

in nature vitamin c is in its left turned isomeric form and the synthetically made ones are the right turned isomere of ascorbic acid. unfortunatly isn't the body able to process right turned isomeres. it was long though that the human body could adapt to using right isos instead, but it's now shown that this isn't the case.

if you know something useful, post in this thread :goodjob:

Artificial ascorbic acid (vitamin c) is still good for flavouring candies.

What you said about the pills is very useful, though. :goodjob:

P.S. If you squeeze an orange-peel at a flame, the acids erupting from the peel will flare and greatly entertain young and old alike.

***

Ripening apples emit a gas which promotes ripening in other fruits. You can greatly speed the ripening of, say a crisp avocado, by placing it in a bowl with an apple.

The moisture slowly released by a slice of apple will keep brown sugar from turning hard in the jar.

It would be even more useful if people could provide us either with evidence or references for primary sources that discuss that evidence. Otherwise, why should we believe anything here?

Never fart near a candle. If you don't believe me, stormerne, there is always the evidence of your senses :p

OK, so that was a bad example. ;)

That's pretty much the same like "never smoke behind a cow" and that's not a joke, truly, just don't do it. ;)
