v1.27f for PTW

The latest UK version is 1.21f

You may get an unofficial and unsupported 1.27 UK patch without the updated editor by doing as follows:

0 Make sure you have PTW UK version 1.21f
1. Download the German (or any other language version (I used German)) of 1.27f
2. Install it to it's own directory (NOT the PTW directory)
3. Make backups of Civilization3X.exe, Text\labels.txt, Tex\script.txt, Text\Civilopedia.txt and Art\Leaderheads\CL_CULTB.pcx (you will need these to revert to back UK 1.21f once the real patch is released)
4. Copy Civilization3X.exe and Art\Leaderheads\CL_CULTB.pcx for the German patch to your CIV3PTW directory
5. Unzip the zip file containing edited English text files based on the changes of the German files from 1.21f to 1.27f and the English readme of the patch0(the English strings are in there)
6. Test run your 1.27f version.

Note: Do this on your own risk
Any rules changes made for 1.27f (if any) are not copied by this method. The editor will not be the one of the patch, which means that you can't take advantage of the visible map option added.
You won't have the latest readme file and the file civ3id.mb (of which functionality I don't know, and which doesn't seem to have any effect on the game) will not be the one form the patch (as the English and German civ3x.id are different in 1.21f)

This is probably a dumb question but, how would you select these techs for research, other than when the popup appears after you've just researched a tech, given that they don't appear on the science advisor screen?

Darn, they didn't add pop-ups in multiplayer, probably THE most needed improvement in the game (unless you don't play MP).

Oh well.

Some really good stuff from this patch - AI patrolling can be switched off and the allowance for civ-specific tech trees. Brilliant.

I would have liked to have seen the facility for more than 31 civs at the startup screen though....hopefully this will be increased when C3C comes in - but lets leave this here as there's plenty of other threads where this has been discussed!

The positive stuff in the patch, for me, far outweighs anything that is missing that I wish they had done.

The question is anything but dumb. The non-era tech research bug was. :)

Remember the feature in the science screen where you can click a later tech and the game will automatically set a research queue beelining to that tech? If you had non-era techs as prerequisites to other techs you could _still_ click those later techs and the game would happily assign a research beeline _including_ those non-era techs... :(

This essentially made civ-specific tech trees impossible to make.

So huzzah from me to the patch team! :goodjob:

The US\UK patch was probably already finished, before the other languages, but not released yet because non-english players were complaining about the late patch releases. It's nice to see Firaxis listens to the players :) .
I have the US version, but I don't give a lot about multiplayer so this patch doesn't mean that much to me anyway.

Yes, the US patch was done weeks ago.

Hi All,

It took them sooo many months to release this new patch &
99.99 % of the patch concerns multiplayer (which as far as i know only 0.00001 % of the Civ gamers use) Further more the english patch is still missing...

What the hell goes with that company ??? Hello ??? Were r u ???

What about the unusable military advisor ?????

I guess it will have to wait to next year for next patch....

<hateful comments deleted>

Moderator Action: hey, calm down!!! Chance is the US & UK patch will come out Monday. We have waited for this patch for several months. Two more days of waiting will not kill anyone. -- Thunderfall

Indeed!

The last couple of patches have had some goodies that in no way affected the standard game, but give modders some great new tools.

Thanks for the clarification Pembroke :)

If his head is on your "dest" wouldn't he be dead? Firaxis probably has a very good reason for withholding the US/English patch. Or maybe they're giving Americans the wait they gave Europeans with the last patch. But then they're bsing English players... so it has to be a technical problem.

Yeah, it's gotta be some sort of problem.

If they're delaying it to help out the non-English players, that is so incredibly stupid it makes Anna Nicole Smith look like a Yale graduate. First, if it were because of that they should have started the non-English patches first, rather than just not release the English ones for a while, second, it screws the Brits twice, and third, it's when the non-English get the patch that matters (or should matter) to them, not when the English get it. So I conclude that they're delaying it for good reason. :) Unless I'm missing something here... Not that a couple more days (which it hopefully will be) matters much, anyway.

The fact that the patches don't come out together leads to the suspicion that the various national versions still aren't compatible, and are now so messed up they never will be. Otherwise you'd think that a single release date ( consistent with having checked the patched versions all work together) would make sense?)

Hello folks,

Oh, the conspiracy theories! "They" are paying back the Americans. No, it's a compatability problem... No! It must be because they like to make us squirm! Yes, that's it!

Okay, folks, the truth is, the emails to the US technical team on Friday never made it, because the recently discovered virus W32.Mimail.A@mm (read all about it at http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.mimail.a@mm.html ) appeared on one of Atari's systems sometime Friday. Our IT dept was on the case, and some emails were queued up while the mailserver was shutdown. A very minor setback, with virtually no effect on our business... except that it caused a gap between the Friday vs. Monday release of the two patches (international tech support is on a different server and was not affected.)

So as soon as we verify everything is a-okay, you'll see that US/UK patch.

Best,
Jeff Foley

Where is the added .ini they are talking about?

I think that patch is for both US and UK version. Not 100% sure though.

PS: I have sent Firaxis's Jesse Smith an email about that. I will let you know when I get a reply.

EDIT: Never mind. That patch is for US only. :(

From Jesse Smith: "Its just for US - the Atari Loc person is new and didn't get the UK version wrapped with the right copy protection... =("

Thanks for clearing that up, Jeff. :) And I'm assuming that the patch affects games that you are in the middle of, including multiplayer games?
