v1.27f for PTW

It's nice to see that they've incorporated some of the ideas from my Conquest XP Creation Wishlist, although whether or not they were gonna do that anyway is another story ;)

Now, I'm bored waiting for the patch. I guess, once again, it's a case of 'sod the UK, they don't matter'.

It turns out the UK PTW 1.27f patch is identical to the US version, according to Jesse Smith. UK players can install the US patch without problem.

EDIT: Never mind. It can't use the US version. :( See below.

I'm not so sure about that. :undecide:
A patch appeared at ftp.download-center.com with the international patches this afternoon. Thinking it might be the UK version at last I d/l it, but got the "insert disk" error when I tried to start the game - the patch was the US version.

edit: And why do the US and UK versions always have the same filename, it's annoying.

Tried it again with the patch you linked to TF, and it doesn't work for me at all. :(

wooooohoooo

installed, now i cant play civ3 ptw anymore

i must have the CD in the drive aparently.........erm so what is that disk in there now?

sigh

UK version

UK should be up - an actual version that works... ridiculous...

Just wanted to thank everyone for their help with the patrol bit before. I got in there and did it and it does appear to work, though I'm currently early on in the game. We will see how it goes later on.

Why do you think AI Patrolling is so valued that it requires such a proceedure to turn it off? Could a check box not be used instead of going through all this? Or is that the next step?

Anyways... thanks.

Later!

I think the original thought when programming the AI was not to waste resources, and moves are definately resources. So the AI was just doing what it was programmed to do: Look at the unit, see what it has and where it's at, and use it. Well, RR's weren't as well thought out as it could have been.

But yes, you're right, a check box would be nice. Perhaps (hint hint) in C3C. . . .;)

(But seriously, Firaxis and Atari, you guys are doing pretty good, in my opinion.)

To the UK PTW fans who have downloaded the US version thinking that it might work and who heard to do this from me or someone that I told - I'm an idiot. 5 days I waited for the answer on what the problem was with the UK version - 5 days and was told that it would work. I should have known it wouldn't - but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Well I'm an idiot for listening to them.

Once again I apologize for your having to wait while we get a our **** straight. I'll be on the phone with Atari Loc at 4am and this will be sorted out by the end of your day.

Great to hear from you Jesse!

I guess, I, as a UK version user, need to be a little more patient!

Since you are here anyway: Could you explain why there are different versions for UK and US? And why can I only buy the UK version here in Holland?

How about conquests? Will there be US and UK versions again? If so, I will ask a freind in the US to buy and send one!

Because the US version uses a different copyprotection (SecuRom I think) than all the European versions, including the UK version, use (SafeDisk).
As stated somewhere above, it might just be the different civ3.exe or civ3ptw.exe in this case, because that needs to call the copy protection algorithm.
:D

Thanks Lucky! But why do the US and UK (European) versions use different copyprotections  ?

different companies in different areas hold copyrights? i dunno, sounds silly to me :crazyeye:

Not necessarely copyrights, but more like market shares. AFAIK, SecuROM has the majority on the US market and the CDs pressed in/for the US.
And SafeDisk has that for Europe and most of the rest of the world. Also, if I remember correctly, SafeDisk is supposedly harder to crack. And they might think there are more crackers in Europe. ;)
Or vice versa, not sure.
:D

FYI, with Conquests we are using 1 form of copy protection for all versions and the plan is to have a US disc and International disc (includes all languages - selectable during installation). Thats the plan anyway.

Problems like these are annoyingly frustrating!!!

Unfortunately there is an EXTREMELY large amount of confusion regarding this issue and it is taking me some time to clear it up. I hope to have it resolved soon.

Thanks for your continued patience!

The AI patrol does work in that you dont see the AI roaming mindlessly around if they can only move a few spaces back and forth. I really dont think the 'in between time' for turns has shortened any. If it did its very minor.

I am playing a late modern age game with all civs in modern or industrial age.

Just figure let people know it is not some miracle change.

BTW, I know this is a crappy way to fix the problem - but if you patch with one of the language versions and then make a copy the EXE and then patch with the US version - you can copy the EXE from the language version over the US one and it will work.

The UK patch should hopefully be up soon...

Atari UK have released the real thing now, though they haven't exactly made big announcements about it on their site.

The 'real' UK 1.27f patch can be found at
http://www.uk.infogrames.com//?pg=goodies&gcat=patches

Edit: That one is identical to the US version and was posted yesterday (see Lucky's post a few posts up). Real UK version should have smaller file size than the US version. --TF
