v1.27f for PTW

Well, three times I've installed this morning and three times I've reinstalled the entire game to get out of it. The first time because I assumed it was okay since the link was there, the second time by after downloading independently from the Atari site and because I decided it might be cleaner if I did lots of reboots at the right times and the third time incase it worked if I by-passed the 1.21 patch. Still no joy.

Should I go for a fourth with the clever idea of overwriting from the "continental" .exe? Or should I devote some time to playing a game today and try again next year?

The 'exe I used was always about 7.31 Mb.

I only bought PTW a fortnight ago, but 1.21 went in perfectly first time.

Sounds like a nightmare!

When you are reinstalling, are you uninstalling, completely, first? Sometimes you may need to restart your computer after an uninstall, before reinstalling. Umm... but reading what you've written suggests you've already tried something like this. :( Are you sure all the other patches you're installing are the UK versions? I'm lost for further suggestions, sorry.

Your fourth idea might be the only route. But you do what you feel is best for today -- it's hot, you should be playing a game, not repeatedly reinstalling it, relentless.

 OK,- before I install my downloaded copy of the UK patch 1.27, has anyone got this patch to work properly on the UK PTW? I'd rather wait than risk messing up my existing install.
I d/l'd the patch from this site and it installed with absolutely no probs. I've since started 2 games and everything seems to be working fine. Now if I could just get that darned multiplayer to accept that I'm not behind a firewall!
I'm running XP pro and went from 1.21 to 1.27f

Has anyone noticed that, on the UK 1.27 patch, blank leader portraits (with a ? mark over the face) appear on the foreign advisor screen, even if there are only 4 or 8 civs. There are no *missing* leader portraits anymore.

I've noticed this with the US version. I guess it's just another add-in. It does make it look balanced, but a little much; a screen full of question marks in the modern era.

I noticed that to-day too while playing a Tiny map. I *hate* it! Is this a bug or a 'feature,' I'd like to know...

I hereby revoke any implication that my earlier post(s) may have had regarding some kind of plot/conspiracy/etc. behind the patch release sequence.

That would clearly require rather more competence than has been displayed in the release of this patch; I shall in future attribute simple stupidity to any such happenings. :)

I agree Lord Apolon. Those ? faces look really bad when you know they are never going to be filled. Bring back the *missing* leaderheads Firaxs.

Because the US version uses a different copyprotection (SecuRom I think) than all the European versions, including the UK version, use (SafeDisk).
As stated somewhere above, it might just be the different civ3.exe or civ3ptw.exe in this case, because that needs to call the copy protection algorithm.
:D

I'm using the 1.27f US patch on my UK PTW as i get an error message in french if i use the UK patch, this also happens with the 1.14f UK patch, although my game came already patched up to 1.14f (the game only came to stores in Portugal in February).

My PTW cd is protected with SecuRom new, so maybe that's why the US patch works.

Pretty much my thoughts on the subject lol :goodjob:

Hi! I have the UK version of PTW and I still can't get that 1.27f patch to work.

I have completely uninstalled all the patches and the PTW and reinstalled the PTW and the UK 1.27f patch, and still it gives me No-CD message in French!!!

Is it so hard to make one patch to work properly? Why they don't make a patch which will work?

I'm SURE I have the UK version and have downloaded the patch from a link which tells me it's the UK patch.

Any suggestions what to do?

Mickkeys,

I downloaded the 1.27UK patch from CFC and it worked fine on my version. I also downloaded the US patch with the 'workaround' that was published for about a day, that was OK too.

You can try downloading again form CFC (make sure the link points to the CFC server, not Firaxis), as if you do have the UK version it really should work. If this still doesn't work PM me - I can take you through some stuff to get it going. :)

Hi Lucky :D
I just did that

My PTW version was bought in Denmark, so I installed the new UK 1.27 patch (here from CFC), alas as many others I got:

“Veuillez insérez le CD-EOM approprié, puis cliquez sur OK et redémarrez l'application” Crazy gibberish… :p

Why… Why in the name of God, do they have to make a million different versions

I agree with what Wolfhart said… Someone should suffer for this, but certainly not us :ack:

BTW, prior to reinstalling CIV3 and PTW, the start screen for Battlefield 1942!?! and the French message showed when I started PTW with patch 1.27.
Now, after reinstalling, I ‘only’ get the French message…

Ciblri, if the cd is bought in Denmark you probably have 1.14 on the cd as I do. The UK patch didnt work for me either, I got the french messages aswell.

But the US patch did work even but I have the uk version. Try with it an se if it works.
