<sigh> was going to post a bug report and then
got depressed reading all the other bug reports
- worse than mine.

but I've been twisting the game's tail & map scale

iGridWidth>952</iGridWidth>
<iGridHeight>940</iGridHeight>

of course "huge" map - so I setup a hubworld
with this, 18 civs, and i'm bouncing thru
the game nicely - got a stack of 42 cavalry
and the AI cities are going down like dominos

and another army of workers trying to irrigate & roadbug
& railroad everything.

problem; when the game is switching from unit to unit
asking for instructions / goto's
it often blanks out as if I had hit ctrl-B for bare map
and more than 1 in 4 of those blank out's
are total game crash & abort to desktop.

btw this is with patch 1.52 installed
:(

This map you're trying to run is orders of magnitude larger than any of the standard maps, or anything the game was ever designed to run. None of the default sizes is into three figures for either the gridwidth or gridheight. I'm frankly amazed it has worked at all so far. The reason it's blanking out is there are simply far too many units and things on the map, so what is at worst a sluggish unit control on sensible maps becomes slowing to a game crashing crawl. I shall however point this out to people who were complaining Civ 4 wouldn't run a 181x181 map.

This really cannot be classed as a bug, any more than you could complain that an ordinary car can't break the sound barrier.

if you're going to playtest a game, of any kind,
aren't you *supposed* to push things to their limit ?

 :crazyeye: :) ;)  :D   :goodjob:

Yeah, but this is miles beyond Civ 4's limit and no one would reasonably expect it to be able to do this, so it isn't a bug as you were claiming. Should I stick a bug report on Rome: Total War's forum to say that there's a bug that it crashes if I mod it to have a battle with a million troops on each side? This is a very unreasonable complaint about Civ 4, and from the array of smiley's above I'm somewhat uncertain whether you're being serious. I hope not. ;)
