no, firgeis is next i believe unless he's out for the moment.

EDIT: Nevermind i just saw hes out for the moment ill play later this afternoon then. I gotta get some sleep first  . its like 1:30 in the morning over here and i got school today.

alright guys i got the game and played it. It was an interesting set of turns to say the least. Check back in a few minutes i still have to crop and upload screenies.

Pre-Turn: I look over everything and find that Qin is willing to trade some furs to us for wheat so I make a deal. Next I check with our financial advisor and see we’re paying 10gpt for our military so I get rid of 2 obsolete warriors outside our borders. Ok I literally have spent about 20 minutes studying and analyzing what the best possible strategy given our situation would be and our goals in this coming war against Catherine and I seriously doubt we’ll be able to maintain anymore cities then we have now. Bede said it’s probably best we go for the cultural techs leading up to military tradition and then trade those techs for economic techs and I agree so I set tech to literature which will require polytheism so that we may have a shot for the great library. Given our economic situation and the strain our military is having on our economy I believe we should have a limited war and raze Yakutsk and take Yaroslavl mainly for it’s gems. Personally I think that is all our economy can sustain for the moment. Taking the continent for ourselves would be best but right now our economy just isn’t agreeing with us. We need money fast so we need to hook up the gems around Rheims as well.

Turn 1: I go about promoting some of our soldiers and position them to attack. I set science to 50% for the moment to get to literature quicker so that Paris can have something to build other then military units. Maybe Great Library.

Turn 2: Alright everyone is in position and ready to go to war. Most of our cities will be building replacements during the war. I hope I don’t mess things up, I am a pretty decent warmonger though.
Here’s our initial forces:

6 Swordsman with mixed cover and shock promotions
4 Axeman, two of them have woodsman promotion for protection and two have cover promotions.
2 Spearman, one with medic promotion and the other with shock promotion
1 Archer on a nearby hill standing by to garrison the city as soon as it’s captured

Reinforcements are coming up

Most_powerful_Civs.JPG

I think this happened in the second turn im not too sure.

Turn 3: WAR IS DECLARED ON CATHERINE!!!! Catherine mysteriously switched to vassalage and upgraded her archer to a longbow on the same turn and no doubt will upgrade the other archer in the next turn.

Catherine_adopts_Vassalage_3.JPG

Turn 4: I hold my breath and hope that no mass of horse archers and war elephants come trouncing over our border.

I’m currently playing an SP game and I am the Chinese and I fought a war against Tokugawa since his capital was nearby and it had the pyramids and I had to expand and nobody likes him so everything seemed too point to war against Tokugawa. I declared war on him with a mere force only enough to take Kyoto and hold it with no immediate reinforcements. All of a sudden a mass of war elephants and horse archers came knocking and pillaging my lands. I was prepared though and managed to fight them off but I wasn’t able to take Kyoto and was forced to a peace treaty with nothing to show for it. This was on Monarch level and I think I was really pushing it with only a small force and no immediate reinforcements and ever since then I’ve been afraid of not having enough units to get the job done or to defend my lands.

No units come across our borders they will and I’ll be expecting them. The units inside Yakutsk are archer units so I attack with cover promoted swordsmen only.

Taking_Yakutsk.JPG

Report: Yakutsk has been pillaged and we have returned 16 gold to the treasury before destroying it.
Casualty list: 1 Swordsmen KIA
Body Count: 1 archer destroyed, 1 longbowmen destroyed

Current force:

5 Swordsman with mixed cover and shock promotions, two city raider promotions.
4 Axeman, two of them have woodsman promotion for protection and two have cover promotions.
2 Spearman, one with medic promotion and the other with shock promotion
1 Archer replaced swordsmen

Turn 5: No counterattack yet but I move a stack on top of a jungle hill to view ahead and report any possible enemy SoD’s.

Recon.JPG

Turn 6: Moved an archer in the forest to spy ahead for counterattack (can you tell im a little paranoid)

Turn 7: I start moving my SoD’s into Russian territory again ready to attack the next city. My archer spies a horse archer moving to the front but our woodsman spears should be able to take care of that. Nothing much is happening right now though. BTW any units who are not in one of my two SoD’s are NOT promoted and I did that on purpose to give the next player more flexibility. Only units who are in the SoD’s are promoted

Turn 8: That horse archer went for my archer and killed it doh! It damaged the horse archer pretty bad though which is good it shouldn’t cause any trouble then. And I finally catch a glimpse of Yaroslavl.

First_look_into_Yaroslavl.JPG

Turn 9: Both SoD’s are now in position to attack next turn with reinforcements right behind them. Still no major counterattack hmmm……

Turn 10:

A_One_man_army.JPG

Now thats what i call a one man army

Report: Yaroslavl was taken and returned 116 gold to the treasury.
Casualty list: NONE that’s right NO casualties despite it’s 75% defense bonus
Body Count: 1 wounded horse archer, 1 archer, and 1 axe man

Current force: Too many to count it’s getting out of hand because our economy is suffering because of it. I suggest the next player switch some cities to research.

sorry bede i realized i didnt crop enough on my pics  . im using the paint program that came with my computer and it's the first time ive used it so im still getting the hang of it. Not to mention i've never even finished an SG before. Ill make sure to crop enough next time ;) .

Anyway, now that we've taken a good chunk from Catherine i think we should either consolidate or press on razing whatever we cant afford to keep. Or better yet raze everything that doesnt have a wonder or isnt a holy city and wipe both the Chinese and the Russians from the continent. With our military it could be possible too. Conquest could also provide us with some gold whenever we conquer a city which will sustain us just a little longer to correct our economy. I really think we should build the Great library too, we have the marble (and stone) too get the 50% off bonus and we're industrious with a forge in Paris im sure we could build it easily and it would help us keep up in the technology race too.

Nice work. I think keep on keeping on. Shooting for the Library makes sense as long as we cabn keep up a good flow of troops to the front.

Don't worry about the economy too much. That is a self correcting problem if the war is successful. And to make it successful we need troops. What really hurts is failure....as then there is no correction for the problems created by the cost of war.

And it looks like I'm in the hot seat, so I will play it tonight.

@TRac - screenies are just fine. Works a treat. If you resize them to 800x600 that's perfect.

resizing them to 800x600 is good and all but the resolution isnt the same and i hate that. Id rather just crop them. dont worry though, now i know how much of the screenie i should crop to make it fit.

Turn 155 (900 AD)
Nice work on the warfare. We have a really nice salient into Russia and a really good set up for the future.
First thing I do though is turn up the research rate into Literature, with over 200g in the bank we can afford some deficit spending and as it turns out the Heroic Epic in Paris will be the result. One turn swords and two turn War Elephants :woohoo:

Then when the research into Literature finishes revolt to Police State for the Troop Training Bonus and the reduced war weariness. That step was not needed as there is no war weariness and we seem to be able to build troops fast enough.

The next target is Novgorod and I anticipate a great deal of difficulty gettin there. The army will have to make good use of the terrain, following the line of hills and forests to the east of the river. That assessment also proved wrong as the Russians sent a single War Elephant at the converging forces, nary a catapult in sight until the very end and not much else.

Paris grows: 10
Paris finishes Worker to chop forests as needed for Wonders.
Rheims grows: 4
Rheims finishes: Lighthouse A little more commerce never hurt.

Turn 170 (1100 AD)
It has taken Catherine a while to get organized, but she is coming at Yaroslavl' with a serious counterattack (Elephants and cats)

But I think Yaroslavl is adequately defended with more arriving every moment

I burned up the treasury trying to get some beakers into CoL, and founded Marseilles to the north which didn't help but the town has a cow and lots of coast to work so should be pretty cash generating as soon as it gets its growth

We need to claim that last corner in the north before we can reopen the borders with Qin

And I sold him some wheat and rice to keep the treasury in the black

Paris begins: War Elephant

Rostov is the next target

Jumbos and cats are in production and on the road south.

Sorry for the lack of screenshots but the photoserver is acting up so I can;t get them uploaded.

We have the score lead at the moment woth Qin in the trailing position. That will change when we meet the other continents, however, but let's enjoy it while we can.

I dinked around with those stupid pictures for so long.....

(click the ruddy face of the embarassed monk)
