V19 Ideas & Priorities (player/fan perspective)

Haven't someone set something to track global culture for a civ, it could be the trigger to gain a new trait that you have the prerequisite (tech, war, alliance, vassal, civic, religion, etc).

That's not a bad idea I think. AIAndy was working on global culture tracking.

yep... that's a really good idea... to use global culture to unlock new leader traits... that'd really make culture on the slider bar a LOT more valued to consider.

One thing I don't like about that mentioned mod is that traits sometimes scale back too... I'd prefer to have an ever growing collection than to have to worry about traits I come to rely on having being lost. Otherwise, you're right that some of the coding there could be useful to duplicate.

Maybe Espionage Accumulation could also grant some Traits now and then, mainly ones your opponents have or have earned?

One thing to consider though is that given/earned Traits shouldn't go fully hand in hand with what you did to earn it. Lots of Culture giving traits for even more Culture just puts the leader in Culture even further ahead. Lots of Espionage giving Traits that make their Espionage even better is the same thing. Same goes with Gold and Science, and so on.
A decent outlook would be to think of it as (input nation name) has mastered the (input either Science/Gold/Culture/Espionage) and are now able to put their focus elsewhere.

Cheers

I agree with that. Though I admit it is tempting to consider granting traits based on the % you have your sliders to, as you said BlueGenie, it ends up just making the nation stronger in that area-- and particularly in regards to Science which there is too much points for as is.

I think I'd prefer to not use Espionage for traits, just so it gives more weight and uniqueness to Culture. Espionage DOES need it's own additions, but I'm sure there will be other opportunities.

HOWEVER... it may be worthwhile for slider % to improve the effectiveness of a trait. An Espionage-esque trait will obviously be more effective when funds are going into Espionage. Maybe the cost ratio improves? Maybe extra stability in the nation for each 25% on the Espionage slider? And so on. Not just for Espionage of course, but the others too.

I agree that I wouldn't want traits lost. Even if they could be gotten again, or changed, that will be a whole new strategy that Koshling would need to integrate into the AI. Overall I'd say there should be a limit to the number a nation can achieve, but having some choice along the way would be great.

:hmm: why not have it trigger an additional trait through civ wide culture level (say three trigger levels) and then have a few checks for each trait depending on what the civ does (e.g. if its very culture oriented -> culture trait, very science oriented - science trait etc.) and then offer the player a choice of say the top two traits to add.
