V2 - Hello BtS

1000 BC - Scouting warrior in the north dies with honor.

After the library is complete I hired 1 scientist and started on another settler

Math is discovered, which will grant us our unique building once Masonry is acquired (in a trade?) I started on Alphabet next so we could start trading as soon as possible. It was due in 13 turns.

Now, over in Hari I started on a library because we are already getting some serious cultural pressure. We get the bonus for building libraries. Oh yeah, and the copper was connected. But it's going to be a long road to the capital from here! I eventually started sending the settler from our capital in the general direction of the horses, along Copper Road, to one of 2 potential city sites. I think this could be a good base of operations to attack the Incas since it has decent production. I didn't found the city yet so this decision can be changed. I also have the workers from both ends almost finished with Copper Road.

I noticed Huayna sending a Jewish missionary our way, and sure enough it spreads in our capital. Shortly thereafter Buddhism also spreads. So we have some possible options here if we want to convert.

Oh uh, we've got company. A barb archer is heading towards El Capital. I was chopping a forest for the settler, where I think a cottage could eventually go, but used it on another archer and got some overflow to speed the settler at the same time. I didn't want that barb getting any ideas about pillaging the gems outside the city. He attacked the city instead and died at 0.4% odds or something like that. But anyway now we have a second archer to escort the new settler.

Meanwhile, the Incas look to be going wonder-happy. I send a warrior scouting their lands (since we have OB and are not spying on them) and spot a strange but powerful pointy type of building. We want that. These industrious people appear to be making good use of that stone. I also see they have horses. Our warrior also reaches another coast to the south, so it appears the Incas have nowhere to expand but West or North towards us.

After the library, I've put some hammers into both an axeman and spearman in Hari, but not finished either build yet.

650 BC
After finishing Alphabet I went to the tech screen and clicked on Calendar next, not realizing at the time that we actually need Fishing and Sailing first. So Fishing will be done in 1 turn. Although looking at the tech trade situation, I see we could have gotten that. Notice that Huayna won't trade iron working. I don't see any iron in his lands so this could be our opportunity to strike while the iron's.... well, you know. Huayna will give us Masonry and Fishing for Writing, and Pacal will give us Mysticism and Fishing for Math. I say we pass on both offers at the moment. Ragnar won't trade jack.

Looks like a nice set in general, and very quick too :)

What do you mean you cannot see my dotmap?? It is the same light/setting/color of other screenies, does this mean you cannot see any screenies?

Anyhow my next proposed city is one east of the cows. Grabing both the rice and cows...

I dont really see the point for a library in Hari, it produces no commerce what so ever (not even from trade yet)... It is only going to add 2 culture which we dont really need... we are not going to change these borders for a long while yet... Not ours or Pacal's way, unless offcourse we remove his culture all together... I would have build us some Axemen and Spears from Hari instead or possibly added a granary for whipping aid...

On the trades... Give HC writing for Myst + something (masonry preferable I think) then wait one round see if we can pick up some religious techs too :) Both HC and Pacal must have atleast one tech beyond Myst for us to trade.

HC has 2 cities on hills, we are going to need some Cats to support our army vs his archers. I suggest we go for construction instead of Calander, Why do we want a scientist for Philo? We are going to have Judaism soon enough as our own religion...

namliaM - I can't see just that one dotmap on this computer at work because of the darkness on parts of the map, otherwise I can see everything else fine, it's not your settings or anything.

Guys, I hate to be doing this, but I am going to need to skip this turn. I moved back to college this week, and it turns out my computer's DVD-drive is broken. So... yeah... Can't really install much of anything. :) New parts should be here Monday or so, so skip me until further notice.

1. vovan (skipped until further notice)
2. dl123654 - UP (10 turns)
3. ScubaSteve - On Deck
4. Lucky1972
5. namliaM
6. LlamaCat

That's a tragic situation for any Civ player, vovan. I feel your pain.

By the way, is this game set up to have random events? I haven't noticed any yet at all... maybe it's just too early still? usually by now I would have seen some happen for the AIs, at least.

Yeah, when I suggested Alphabet I did suggest we get fishing and Sailing from trades to speed up Calendar, as well as IW if possible. AI probably already have Sailing, we will see that when we get Fishing. We definitely should trade Writting away now before everyone gets it. I would even gift it to Ragnar to start making friends and maybe get him to trade with us. We should only trade Maths for IW or something as good.

Regarding our next city, I strongly suggest some food rich site, food is critical now, and we already settle a food poor site to grab the marble (which was a good move IMO). I suggest site number 7 moved 1E as suggested (on the dyes, grabbing rice, banana, silk, another dye). This could be a great commerce city, or even a GP farm.

7 is food rich but also jungle ridden and its going to take a while to develop, imo we can wait grabbing it... Also the banana is jungle (chop and Plantation) and the rice there is not irrigated (we need chain farming to do that)

4 has open grassland with a cow and (irrigated) rice giving us +7 food and instant cottage lands.

I'm not great at city placement decisions but I agree the #4 site is probably good since we need to get some cottages going at some point, yes? money is running low...
what are the specific reasons we need a food-rich site at this time - just for general growth and/or running specialists... is that the idea here?

Yeah, I remembered I said exactly that in another SG (Space Monkeys), I was against a jungle city, but the team went ahead and settled that as our second city. It grew to be our best city in the end. So now I am not that worried about the jungle anymore(we do need IW soon). I also like the land grabing of that number 7 spot, we need to make use of our creative trait.

Sorry, I did not notice number 4 had rice (I can't load the save and was looking at old maps). It is in fact food rich and has nice production potential. I would still consider number seven because it complements nicely what we already have, but I agree number 4 is great as well.

The War stack contains 3 warriors, 2 axes and a spear

good we have copper hooked up everywhere. well, it looks like we have border tension with Ragnar already, I was hoping to avoid that. so do we build up that stack with more axemen and spearmen, and will that be enough to take down the Incas? we are basically bankrupt so I guess we need cottages now to support the expansion, otherwise without courthouses how can we afford to hold onto Cuzco with the pyramids so early.

Hey, nice going... building up the sstack 2 axe and 3 spears... I suggest we add some more axe and start on Construction next.

I would suggest to withdraw our "war stack" to within our borders to save maintenance.

What happened to angkor wat? I think we wanted a high food city, which would be 4 or 7, 4 is more or less taken now by hc. I dont know the order of settling of the cities... but if 4 is taken why not head out to 7? And why settle on that spot?

I havent looked at the save yet, but why do we have unhappy people in our capitol? 6 should be our happy cap, 5 + 1 whip = 6... so why are we at size 5 with unhappy people?
