So, usually I turn Barbs off because they annoy me, but decide to try the new mode and so tried put Sanguine Pact for the first time.

The vampires don't seem to be getting stronger with kills.
  • I've killed civ units with them.
  • I've killed CS units with them.
  • I've killed Free City units with them.
  • I've killed Barbs with them.
All of them have the exact same combat strength. They do occasionally increase in combat strength, but it's all of them simultaneously and I believe it's due to me training more powerful units. I have one vampire that I forgot about, and so has very few kills, same combat strength as the others.

Am I missing something? Or is this a bug? I have no mods, all XPs and DLCs bar Khmer & Indonesia and Nubia. I'm playing with Monopolies and Corporations, Heroes, SS and Barbs Game Modes on. Does anyone else have the same problems?

The bonus combat strength from units dying next to Vampires doesn't come as base combat strength (as you said, that is tied to the strongest units you've trained), but as a combat modifier:
you can see it on the combat strength breakdown when you attack a unit with a vampire. There is one modifier for barbarians which goes to +10 max, and another for other units which afaik is uncapped.

As stated above the combat bonus can be viewed in the combat preview screen:

Thanks guys. Annoying that I can't see how strong my vampire is until I'm about to attack, but at least he's not stuck at 77.
