Van01 - A Newbie Hope

Looking good.

Difficult to tell without a save ;) .

Might be worth improving the corn before we chop more.

Maybe masonry after pottery?

Maybe hunting/archery so we can build a couple of archers between SH and GW?

Re Great Wall: it blocks all barbs from entering anywhere within your cultural borders regardless of the graphic.

OK, I will play the game tomorrow, assuming the save is up by then.

Had a look at the save. Looking good so far.

I'd improve the corn after finishing the current chop to speed up city growth then probably chop/mine another hill for added production while pottery is coming in. Once we've got pottery build cottages on the floodplains.

Chopping stonehenge is unlikely to be a problem as we're unlikely to be in a race this early on. We can always save the chops for later when we're building great wall.

Techwise wheel-pottery. Next techs depend on how we're getting on with stonehenge. We could go for hunting-archery before masonry to build a couple of archers to beef up defences or we could go for masonry first and start on great wall if we complete stonehenge before we can start building archers.

Capital is currently undefended. At 3000bc that won't be a problem but as the city grows we'll get unhappy citizens whining about their safety.

These are just my thoughts. I could well be wrong so I'd welcome alternative plans.

Wheel->pottery-masonry sounds like a good plan. By getting the GW up, we can use cheap warriors to provide city defense for some time.

Carthage will grow in 4, Stonehenge in 14 (will be shorter due to growth and chopping).
The worker should start mining as soon as he's done chopping.
Pottery is due in 3 turns.

Pacal is highest in score (of those we know), and is the founder of Hinduism. Catherine is just east of him, and last in score (2 points below us).

Looking ok so far. Still got two spare happy faces so we can finish off stonehenge before building a warrior.

The map however looks really crappy; going straight from tundra to desert? WTH?

The map generator always makes the start land at least temperate, no matter where your start is on the map. This can result in grassland and desert right next to tundra, even as a sort of oasis in tundra. (Though, to be fair, I've only seen the oasis thing happen in the Funny Pics thread)

Be nice if you could insert a warrior between Sh and GW.

Things are looking good.

IHT #55 2625BC - I MM Carthage to lower Stonehenge due date by 3 turns. The image shows a Granary queued but it was later changed to a warrior.
Civ4ScreenShot0000.jpg

Screenshot is from later, just before SH completed. I contemplated whipping it, but decided against it.

#56 2600BC - Chop finishes and worker moves to flood plain.

#57 2575BC - just some exploration

#58 2550BC - Pottery -> Masonry
Start cottage on the flood plain SW of Carthage.

#59 2525BC - Exploration

#60 2500BC - Stonehenge completed! Warrior queued.
Woodstock survives lion attack in the jungle above Cathy.

#61 2475BC -

#62 2450BC - :coffee:

#63 2425BC - Border pop and warrior finished. Granary started.

#64 2400BC - Woodstock kills a panther. What a :ninja: in the jungle.

#65 2375BC - Cottage finished. Work will road up to the corn.

#66 2350BC -

#67 2325BC - Meet Frederick's warrior above Cathy.
Civ4ScreenShot0002-1.jpg

#68 2300BC - :coffee:

#69 2275BC - Masonry -> Hunting for the archers and to help lower the research on Animal Husbandry.
Whip the granary to completion and queue the Great Wall.

#70 2250BC - Woodstock finds Freddy's homeland north of Pacal.
Great Wall due in 35, but the city will grow in 2 to speed that process.

What was the reason for leaving the hill unmined? I thought the plan was to mine the hill, then move on to cottaging? I'm just wondering...

Besides that, looks like a good turnset.

 Did I miss that we were mining the hill now? My :smoke: if that was the case. I actually wondered about that when the chop finished, but questioned why the worker wasn't just set to build the mine (doing the chop at the same time). My fault on that one.

edit: Yep, sure enough at the end of Splime's report "worker should mine the hill as soon as he's done chopping". Sorry about that.

That's fine. I contemplated just building a mine, but wanted to get the chop done earlier...

No problem though, it's an easy fix. Cottages earlier may have been better anyway...

So, the roster as of now:
1. Pigswill
2. Vanor
3. Splime
4. Dawn (just played)
5. glenmetz (up)
6. stuge (on deck)
