Alright everyone, let me explain all of the problems I'm having. I'm sure this is nothing new.

I installed Vanilla Civ on my new computer. I then installed Beyond the Sword. It installed 1.74, but then it gave some fatal error. I then uninstalled Beyond the Sword since it crashed. So, I updated my directX on microsoft.com, and now Vanilla works. It will not, however, let me uninstall Vanilla--it gives an error to prevent even uninstallation; something must have gotten corrupted when it updated to 1.74.

Also, since Vanilla worked, I thought that Beyond the Sword might now work. So, I put it in the CD drive. Instead of going and installing it like before and skipping the update, it checks for Direct X updates and then the installation just closes.

So, what do I do? I was going to try system restore, but since I've done so much fooling around with this stuff, I cannot find a restoration point before today.

Thanks!

1st question: Vista or XP?
