Thal, I can definitely say that something in your unofficial patch is causing my tech popups to not pop up on screen whenever I research a new tech or find 1 in a ruin and that I definitely do not have the no rewards popups option enabled in the game options either (I never have it enabled to begin with, I like the popups cause they help me keep track of what technology I just discovered in a ruin or finished researching). I did a test with no reward popups by enabling it in game before I finished researching a technology, and then I disabled it again it before researching another tech; I can confirm it's definitely not the source of the issue I am experiencing.

I Just did a quick test with only v27 of your mod enabled and when I researched a technology the popup did not come up on screen (and by popup in case I have confused you I mean the popup that shows the text from the civilopedia with the voiceover reading the text); all that I had on screen telling me I had researched the technology was just some small text in the centre top part of my screen, which is normally obscured by the popup when the popup appears anyway. Not trying to be a pain in the backside or anything but I didn't have this problem when I had v24 of your mod enabled so I'm wondering if something accidentally got changed in the subsequent versions without you realising it?

I've now tested it on both v26 and v27 (both times this was the only mod activated) and the popup did not appear like it should with either version. Also I noticed with v27 that I was getting 2 icons at the right hand side of the screen whenever my cultural borders expanded or whenever I had a city grow larger, something that I haven't noticed with v26 which is what I am still using for a save game.

Hi Thal,

I am using Moaf's Cultural capitals mod together with your civup.

I am pretty sure v11 cc mod compatible with your v26 mod.

When I try v27 civup together with cc mod, the whole tech tree screen becomes unusable...hope the compatibility could be corrected.

Not totally sure if this a bug but in my current game using CIVUP v. 26 The Mongolians have just attacked me with 3 Hussars (Unique Units for Austria) but its only 260BC and the tech leader The Celts have only just reached the medieval era so surely the Mongolians cant have the Industrial era tech required to allow a City State to grant this unique unit? Im thinking it could be a bug making the Mongols UU a Hussar instead of a Keshik?

I can't load any games with this mod active. I can only start new ones.
I heard that the save files might be corrupt, but I'm not sure how to check that. Is there any way to fix them if they are corrupt? Or is this because of something else? Thanks!

I downloaded both the latest GEM and CivUP and I can get to the setup game screen but when I click start from there the game crashes (I have to Ctrl+Alt+Del and I have a Windows message that CivV has stopped working). I don't ever see the next window with the Civ leader come up. No other Mods, I deleted the cache and ModUserData folders, downloaded again but it's still crashing every time I get to that point. Tried it with only CivUP and it was fine.

I have this exact same problem and have also done the same things to try and fix it. My game also works fine with just the latest civUP or any of my other mods but wont load at all with GEM. It only started today when I downloaded the latest version.

System is Windows 7 64bit, i7 processor, ati hd6970 graphics card.... Uhm if there's anything I can post or logs to attach to help please let me know. I generated a lua.log as described in the forums but it didn't contain any errors... I'm guessing this is because the game crashes before it even gets to start loading in.

Update on my issue below, I tried again with CivUP 31 and GEM 1.049 and I'm still having the same issue. Be glad to try anything to help isolate the issue.

Same thing here. Downloaded latest versions, crashes at setup leader screen...

So..nothing really useful. Game crashes before it can get into the game.

I posted some more research about the crash problem in the GEM 1.049 crash to desktop thread.

Could you post your lua.log file after encountering the popup / tech screen problems?

@Milamber
Civup only changes the visual interface, not gameplay, so anything about citystates is a base-game thing. :)

@tinymight
Welcome to the forums! :goodjob:

Exit to the main menu to load games when using mods. Loading from within an active game breaks most mods. (does not re-initialize global lua variables)

Thal. I experience the same problems using CivUP v33 and Cultural Capitals V12. ever seen it before and will investigate it.

"Fortunately" lua.log has a lot of error, which as far as I can tell are related to CivUP. attached the file to the post.

Just tried deleting \Interface\Overrides\Techs\TechPanel.lua from CivUP (have no idea if this is "allowed" but had a feeling this file was involved) and the problems still persists if both mods are loaded. If just one of them are loaded the tech tree works fine.

Cleared cache etc. in between tests.

Well I've tried a lot of things without any success so far:
  • Making CivUp depend on Cultutals Capitals to force CivUp to be laded last
  • Delete entire \Interface\Overrides\Techs\ folder
  • Delete \Interface\Overrides\Techs\TechTree.lua

Only when I play with one of the mods alone does it work.

(Posted this at CC-thread too)

Early (waaaaay early) this morning I saw the exact same problems using the newly released GEM 1.053 and CivUP 34 only this time I didn't have Cultural Capitals installed.

I did however have other mods installed.

When I tried with GEM 1.052, CivUP 34 (it was also called 34 before todays release, wasn't it??) and the same mods yesterday there were no problems at all.

I didn't really have time to investigate a lot but lua.log showed a lot of errors. A test with only GEM 1.053 and CivUP 34 showed no problems.

I'll try to get some time to test again and will include a log-file.

Hi Thal

I think I've nailed the problem with using Cultural Capitals together with CivUP :) :) :)

In Cultural Capitals v12 theres a bug in CCBuildings.xml where TERRAIN_ICE should be changed to TERRAIN_SNOW. This is (based on a test) what causes the Tech tree to disappear when using Cultural Capitals together with CivUP. I changed the line and everything worked fine ;)

I actually found the bug while searching for what caused the bug I mentioned in the previous post. It turned out that I misspelled a buildingclass name in my own mod which was loaded with CivUP/GEM and upon fixing that the problem disappeared. It seems CivUP is pretty touchy when it comes to these kind of errors.

And yes - I think I've got room for one more giant smiley :D

I'm glad you managed to solve the problem. XML errors can indeed cause issues like that, and usually show error messages in database.log, but not for some unusual tables.
