Venice discussion

What about if someone has two versions of Venice in a single game? It would be nice to have Venetian cities rather than choosing from the bottom of other city lists.

I can picture a game with 15 Venices....

"Welcome to New New New New New New New New New New New New New New New Venice!"

Technically it would be Venice, Le Bam, Ayotzinco, Xikang, Amara, etc.

They would take from the bottom of other city lists.

It will be interesting what "Deity AI Venice" or "Advanced start Venice" get.

Based on the fact that Collective Rule(?) gives Venice a MoV instead of a Settler, I would extrapolate that "Deity AI Venice" or "Advanced start Venice" would also replace Settlers with MoVs.

Since Venice always has the double amount of possible trade routes, would (for example) building the Colossus increase Venices trade routes by 2?

I would guess so, but can't be sure.

Currently we know of 10 possible international trade routes (2 from the wonders)

No civ has been seen with more than 9 except Venice, which hasn't been seen with more than 18... and Venice was never seen with an odd number either.

So it is possible Venice only gets 1 from the Wonders, we won't know for sure until someone plays.

Yeah, it's easy. I just want to know if it's possible to do it without having to load a mod (so I lose all achievements).

The game as it is reads data from the xml in its default directories and then overrides them with mods if presents.

If you modify the original xml you can "mod" the game without letting the game know. You'd better know what you are doing though and create a backup.

I never encountered this situation, but do you lose the game if all the cities you have left are puppets? If not, Venice could be in a situation where they lose their capital, but have a bunch of puppets sitting around, and I wonder if the earliest acquired puppet would become the capital (and perhaps controllable?).

No...
If you were another civ besides Venice it would be very hard to win with only puppets (since you would never get new units or Wonders)

However, the AI used to have that problem (it wouldn't annex) and it didn't mean the AI lost the game... (the fact that the AI had lost all its capital and oldest biggest cities did that)

With Venice on the Other hand there is nothing wrong with an Empire of Puppets... because you can buy, you can build up your cities and your armies as you like... and then you can take back your original capital.
(your original capital will not be puppeted, instead it will be liberated, no puppet/annex/raze option.. like what normally happens anytime you take back a city you founded)

We just learned from the livestream that the Great Galleass does most likely have a melee attack. It was strongly hinted and unless it is not a bug, the Great Galleass does have melee attack ability, as it does not have the may not melee attack promotion.

Meaning...
it's really quite good, unlike what most people thought.
not only that, galleass does last a while before frigate.

And hopefully, the allowance of melee will carry on in upgrades.

Allowing melee is LACKING a promotion, so when it upgrades to a Frigate it will gain all the promotions (positive and Negative) of a Frigate.

Venice has a short time period of naval dominance, use it well.

Funny how what strikes fear is not an army, but a Venetian Merchant approaching allied city-states.
Where is my NO SOLICITATION poster? Quiet! close the lights, maybe he will leave. [pimp]

oh we definitely need a GMofV smilie.

Merchant of Venice replaces Settler in the Liberty tree for Venice? That's sick, I honestly didn't expect them to be that generous. Suddenly Venice has a huge incentive to go Liberty (1 free merchant and 1 free GP, which for 99% of players will obviously be a merchant).
