very very bad lag after installing new patch

For testing purposes, go ahead and disable the gamecore threading in your config.ini, and see if it helps. If it does, please also post the top 3 sections (down through audio) of your DXDIAG so we can take a look. Thanks!

1. Open up your config.ini
2. Look for the following line: EnableGameCoreThreading = 1
3. Change it to: EnableGameCoreThreading = 0

I don't know if threading is the issue. When I start a game, the level of detail is very high, even with everything set to off, minimum or low. It's as if the game ignores my settings and just displays everything in the highest details.

I did find if you switch to strategic view that the turn time does shorten a lot but you do loose the animation for sure.
 
Running the newest patch on an i7 quadcore with 12GB of RAM, i am noticing a lag between turns that did not exist prepatch. I am also noticing a lag when I try to specialize workers in the city screen, or when i add buildings to by queue.

In addition when I a viewing a city and move to the next city using the arrow keys, I do not actually move to that city, but view it while still seeing the build queue of the previous one.

I have checked to see if my nvidia drivers are up to date, and I am told that I am running the newest drivers. I am also running NO mods.

This patch problem has nothing to do with your system. It seems to be just a problem wih the programming and efficiency. Someone wasn't doing their job when writing this patch for sure.

You will just have to wait until they get another patch out. Would be a good idea to just get rid of this patch and let us all go back to what we had before.

It is consistent with releasing everything too soon though. However if it was to help in the release of G&K, then obviously that will probably be just as buggy being the very tiny window they have allowed for themselves.

I was pleasently surprised by the appearance of dshirk this time around though. Having fast help and input is always a good sign.

One of the changes we made is moving the gamecore to it's own thread, which allowed us to do things like allowing the player to interact with UI in between turns, toggle animations mid-game, etc.

I may be a little late to the punch here, but...

Whilst the benefits that the separate threading provides are awesome, I feel as if the hit to performance is a trade-off that I did not require.
I am not encountering the graphical lag issues as described earlier in this thread, but my turn times are nearly double which they were pre-patch. I disabled gamecore threading in the config.ini and nothing at all seemed to change: I was still able to fluently view the map/UI elements even between turns; turn times are still the same.

I also get the sync issues between meeting a city-state; killing a barbarian in their encampment; health bar display refreshing; etc.

Other points to mention: not able to discard notifications between turns - must wait until new turn starts; in my options I have Quick Combat on, Quick Movement off - yet I still get both of the options default to on when starting a new game (in the advanced screen).

That should work fine. It will not solve the issues with the new patch. You will have to wait until the engineers get all the bugs out of the patch for that to happen.
 
Does this mean G&k will have all of these problems?

I would not say don't get it. My point was why this patch so close to the release, and why this patch has done so many strange things?

If it were me, I would not have released this patch until after G&K. It just seems to me to be an attempt to weed out any problems, but the timing either way, "stinks"?
 
I am having the same slow down in the AI turn. In the first turn, all of the AI values fill up in the scoreboard and then I have to wait for a long time until my turn comes around again.

I am also having this problem. At the earlier points of the game it was not noticeable but as the game went on it began to get really irritating.

Right now I'm in a game on a huge map around 300 turns in and it can take upwards of 2-3 minutes from ending a turn to the start of the next. It used to only take around 1 at the most. This also started happening much earlier in my game, around 200 turns, whereas before I did not notice a huge delay until around 300 turns. Sometimes when I click end turn and an other civilisation tries to trade with me while waiting for the next turn it can take upwards of 4-5 minutes just for the diplomacy screen to appear. The game freezes in between turns leaving me wondering if the game has crashed or not. I did not have these issues pre-patch.

What is most distressing is that the issue seemed to remain on my computer once I had closed the game. I'm not sure if anyone else is getting this but it took me 10 minutes to boot up my computer earlier and it usually takes a minute at the most. With a few restarts this problem went away but it has made me not want to play the game. I would like to know if anyone else is getting this.

Game started slowing down around 1500. Got to be unplayable (IMHO) around 1800. I persevered and won a cultural victory in 1974. But the game locked up for ten minutes on the last turn and had to be killed with task-manager.

Yes, I got the 'things happening out of sync' problem. I also had Japan tell me not to build cities by them when I hadn't build a city in 250 turns.

If there's anything you want me to try, let me know.
 
Could you upload a couple example late-game saves from this match, along with the time it took for those exact turns to process for you after loading them and clicking "end-turn"?

Just confirming I have this problem too since the patch was installed. I've been playing Civ 5 for almost 1 year now, no issues, but since the patch I now have long delays, for example when a unit has moved it will usually take 15 seconds or more before the next unit is selected and ready to receive a command. and when all my units have moved, it can take 30 seconds or more before the "NEXT TURN" button lights up. so there's a lot of waiting around now. not completely unplayable, but annoying.

if you need me to send through any details that may help you debug the patch, let me know. from reading this thread i'm assuming we can't uninstall the patch, and are just waiting for an update/fix?

For testing purposes, go ahead and disable the gamecore threading in your config.ini, and see if it helps. If it does, please also post the top 3 sections (down through audio) of your DXDIAG so we can take a look. Thanks!

1. Open up your config.ini
2. Look for the following line: EnableGameCoreThreading = 1
3. Change it to: EnableGameCoreThreading = 0

Had same issues re: sync and EXTREME lag between turns - had waits upward of 4 minutes between turns.

Disabling GameCoreThreading did the trick with minimizing the lag. Sync issues remain, but aren't all that disruptive.

The graphics card is below the minimum specs and the drivers 3 years old. Update them (...er...the latter; the former would also make sense, but I guess it's not what you want), maybe it will run better then.

Hadn't realized that the graphics drivers were that far out of date. Thanks. But, of course, that did solve the preoblem. As I stated, on the First Turn! with a small map, I settle my settler, start a contruction, start a tech, move my warrior and click "Next Turn". The AI quickly do all of this also, but then I wait almost a complete 60 seconds before control is given back to me!! :(
Before the patch, control was given back when the last AI leader finished.
Something is not right.
