The name of the game is a reference to how American Airforce servicemen would wear a cap with the stiffening ring removed. The cap would get crushed under the flight helmet. Thus a cap that is all crushed and mangled shows that the person who wore the cap was experienced. (Or maybe they wore their flight helmet over their cap all the time )
