VQ08 - Washington/Emporer - Mission Control

Hey, guys. I probably won't be able to play before Wednesday, so please skip me this round.

Sorry it took so long. I hadn’t really played that much in the game. So when I read the turn sets and looked at the save, I didn’t feel comfortable again. So I had to go back and look at the turnsets again and the variant rules to get back into it.

Turn 0: 1400 AD
Looked around the save. Decided Washington would be the best city to try to get 300 beakers by the year 1500 AD. It’s coming up really soon. Washington has 110 beakers at the moment and is making a University.

Also, I noticed we haven’t been prioritizing the science buildings according to our variant rules. So I would work on that while trying to maintain a military force to discourage invaders (HC) and possibly to wipe out Gandhi.

I did some slight MM.

Turn 1: 1406 AD
Boston built a University and I switch to Theatre to increase the happiness cap.
Peter starts a Golden Age.

Turn 2: 1412 AD
Atlanta builds Longbowman and continued with the Library.
Canceled trades to Peter and Mansa and renegotiated them giving us an extra +5gpt.

Turn 3: 1418 AD
We discovered Liberalism. I switched to Chemistry for military purposes.
New York builds a lighthouse and starts on a Theatre to increase happy cap.
Philadelphia builds a Maceman and begins work on a University (according to variant rules.)

I tried to trade Liberalism to Fred (the only one that doesn’t have it and had some tech to trade to us and I couldn’t get anything.)

Turn 4 – 6: 1424 – 1436 AD
Not much happened

Turn 7: 1442 AD
Boston builds a theatre and starts a caravel.

Turn 8: 1448 AD
Washington builds a University and starts a Monastary. (We need science!)
New York builds a Theatre and starts a University.
Gandhi makes peace with HC. (HC is still at war with us and Peter.)
Tried to trade again and no luck. Hopefully next person can do better.

Turn 9: 1454 AD
Illinois builds a workboat and starts a Library

Turn 10: 1460 AD
Atlanta builds a Library and starts a Forge.

I might have time to play this tonight, so I'll take the save now and see what I can do.

Looking at the year on the attached save, I see that I somehow managed to play 11 turns...

Apart from that, nothing very interesting happened. I made the following trade on the inherited turn:

...followed by this the turn after:

I'm not entirely sure of the wisdom of giving Chemistry to Peter (although there was little point in holding back since he was the only one - apart from HC - without it), but we now have access to grens and observatories (and I've already built one of the latter in Washington). Research has been set to Replaceable Parts to help our somewhat weak production, and the extra cash has allowed us to continue at 100%. At the end of the turnset we have 3 turns left on this; Gandhi remains the only one who has yet researched it so it should have some trading value:

I went begging each turn to try to get Economics as a gift, but no luck. You might want to continue trying anyway.

The only other thing of note is that Vicky declared war on Peter in 1484AD. She also asked us for help later on, but I turned her down. Nevertheless we are in the interesting position of being Friendly with both her and Peter at present!

Once RP is done we can have a blitz on lumbermills; we could probably do with another worker or two...

Scowler, those trades are great. Glad you could play at such a late hour. It must have been like 2am in your part of the world. That means I'm up next and "got it" and play tomorrow sometime.

Eektor,
It's hard to figure out where the game is at when you are out of it for a bit. I don't play for 3 or 4 days and have to "refresh" my memory to get the jest of it. Appreciate you both playing so quickly and keeping the game going. You had 2 SG's to play that I know of so that would keep you busy.

Unfortunately Greyfox we didn't hit 300 more like 148. Part of the problem is that Washington just didn't have the growth. We are also weak military wise and need to work on that if we want to do anything with Gandhi but we are doing good tech wise. I think we should just play and not worry about the variants as such just maybe try to get that space race which is still doable. Only real threat for that is Mansa.

I wasn't able to play today as something came up and will play Aug. 22/06 in the pm before work.

T1

zzzzz

T2

Philly finishes University start Heroic Epic
(although Washington has better production I felt we should keep that clear for Oxford/Wall street.) Philly has decent production and with some growth will do much better.
Freddy heading to our land with a settler
I move our settler to the area he is heading for plus it has better tiles anyways.

T3

Discover RP start Rifling
Washingotn builds Monastery start a worker as we need a few more for Lumbermills.
Settle San Francisco to stop Freddy but he just goes around to tundra.

Civ4ScreenShot0409.jpg

T4

Atlanta starts a courthouse

T5

Freddy lands settler on tundra. ( we will need to push the culture from Seattle to flip him maybe)
NYC finishes University start worker for lumbermills
Illinois start a barracks

T6

Trade RP for Economics with Freddy
Revolt to Free market/free religion (most relationships with civs remain the same except for Peter it goes to pleased) I did this for money/science.
2 turns of anarchy

Civ4ScreenShot0412.jpg

T7

HC attacks caravel and we loose him
He attacks again and he looses
We attack and kill his Caravel

T8

Washington finishes worker start a bank
Chicago finishes harbor start a frigate
Trade economics for DR with Peter
(I know this isn’t something we want but every time we try to trade they only offer DR and did that to get it out of the way for future trades)
Sell pigs to Gandhi for 2 gpt.

T9

zzzzzzzz

T10

We pop a GS and use him for academy in NYC since it has the second best science.

I personally don’t feel I played this as well as I could but just not feeling in the grove right this moment. I didn’t want to hold up the game any longer but after taking pain medication I wasn’t as clear headed as I like to be.

I think we should plant a city here:

vq08-city.jpg

and cottage the hell out of it.

We could take Gandhi out of his misery but this has lost its appeals since we are less powerful than Gandhi (yes, even Gandhi is more powerful than us according to the in-game stats), and Peter grabbed the buddhist shrine.

That would make me UP. Hmm ... I wish you would have let me know ... I wa spractically free during the weekend to play ... weekdays a tad more difficult for me with guests visiting this week.

Ok, I'll see when I can sneak in a few turns ...

Re: cottaging the hell ... I meant chopping all those forests on grassland and cottaging evey grasslands. Main purpose is to keep out further AI's incursion into our backyard, while giving us a few more coins to compete with AIs in research. We are doing pretty well, only one or 2 techs behind the leader. But our GNP sucks big time against them, so we have to find more coins to be able to maintain the tech situiation. Good thing Liz and Pater is at war, that will divert their attention to military techs while we sneak in a few Space techs.

I concur Greyfox and was thinking about skipping NamliaM but was trying to be considerate knowing his schedule is hectic. Also re our military being so weak as the last players were trying to keep up with the variant so that ended up costing us military buildup. We can still start now but maybe go for space early as possible as we are doing good tech wise. I tried to beat the Germans from settling so I moved our settler to stop them but they just went to another spot and closing borders wouldn't have helped since he came in a Galleon.

Greyfox,

I used that settler when Freddy came a knocking.

I know i'm coming up, but I'm going to need a skip. I don't see me having any time to play civ for the next week.
