As part of an effort to make Civilization more global in selection, I submit the request for the following leaderheads. You will find in this thread not only the names and nations of the requests, but also detailed plans for how to make the leaderheads and even rough sketches of what I'm hoping for. Any assistance in filling these by our able-bodied artists would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Please note that the selections are based upon Era (Ancient/Classical, Medieval/Renaissance, Industrial/Modern) and upon Geographic Grouping (Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia, America) in an effort to make the final selection more even-handed than the original.

Needless to say, when trying to globalize Civ but not drastically increase the scale, some generalization is required. Nevertheless, I believe that my nation choices are fair, at least no worse than those of Firaxis. I hope that you agree.

ADDENDUM:

I have finally finished XML programming for the first version of my leader/civ overhaul. I'm reusing a lot of Firaxis leaders as other figures (Gilgamesh became Ashurbanipal etc). The reason for this is quality mixed with a desire to not toss aside some of the amazing work that came with the game. A future release of the mod may contain more original work nevertheless, as it becomes available.

Most of the art I am using is of very high quality; much is from Colonization, and there are a handful of other leaders included (Ataturk, Meiji [retextured for Rye], etc). There are five leaders, however, for whom I am using models that (while not bad by any means) are showing their age next to the new and professional jobs. They are....

- Ekmek's "Garibaldi" as himself
This could go a lot of ways. I'm thinking that perhaps Hannibal with Pericles' beard and mustache with Charlemagne's hair (I've seen this on some medieval fellow recently and it looked nice). Then perhaps the new Henriques clothing (retextured and de-caped Justinian)? Add a Willem hat, and see what happens.

- Ekmek's "Khomeini" as himself
I'm thinking that Willem might make a nice basis for a new Khomeini. Delete the fuzzy trim and stuff from his clothing to make it a more plain, black, slightly draped shirt. Add a beard and the shrunked turban from the current Saladin version, and I think that might do nicely.

I am also currently using three placeholders that I would love to see legitimate versions of...

- The Capo's "Cochise" as Tupac Amaru
The face and hair are pretty good, though there may be a better choice available. I really think that if he were placed in Colonization Washington's suit and given a hat of some sort (Frontenac's without the feather, Vanderdonck's with a rounded top, or some such thing) it would look really sharp.

- Mechaerik's "Franco" as Nasser
I realize that The Capo has Nasser on his short list, so this is really just a humble request that he put it near the top of said list when he returns to leader-making. I know better than to ask for specifics, since he's already worked on ideas and seldom disappoints.

- CivGold's "Williams" as Mobutu
A real version exists, but I think that this is a much finer piece of work (specifically the face and texturing). It just needs Willem's hat (retextured for leopard print), and possibly the suit changed to a button-up shirt (as on Ho Chi Minh and others)

I will continue to use my placeholders until something better is developed, but I hope that these five requests can be given some attention so that my mod can look as professional overall as possible. Thank you very, very much.

That proposed Sikulume LH could also serve as Cetshwayo of the Zulu, IMO.

Cersobleptes could also be used as Canute for the Vikings or Dusan of the Serbs.

I would love to see someone do your proposed Inuit leaderhead. I've been forced to use really poor replacements like asoka or recently random colonization native leaderhead.

I will have Solomon finished tonight, HOPEFULLY, so I hope you like what I've done, its basically going to be what you have asked for.

I am making Cersobleptes as we speak but there are a few issues. First issue is that Bolivar's goatee is actually not its own thing, its part of the head. So I am going to improvise (I think I will use Charlemagne's beard, but only the "goatee" area), as for coloradas' hair; he has a headband, so it is going to look a little strange without it, but I'll try and work with it, this seems like it will be a pretty easy leaderhead to put together, since I don't really have to do any skinning, although I might have to use Stuyvesant's hat rather than willem's because the shape of the hat and gilgamesh crown don't really go together and I am not advanced enough to shape the models beyond making them bigger and larger. I'll keep you posted though.

Actually, here is a pic to show you the issues I am dealing with. Using your idea for the crown the only way to make it really fit the head without overlapping is like this, but as you can see it is not very wide in the front so it looks small, even though (as you can see in the side view) it is almost TOO LONG. Although this probably won't be apparent in the actual LH itself. So I think it looks kind of strange, but I just wanted to touch base with you and show you what I am up to so far. Maybe you can come up with some other ideas, of course if you think this looks okay so far I can continue with it.

First of all, thank you for taking one of these on The Capo! You even chose one of my favorite designs. As far as the issues you bring up, I have only a few things to say.

First, my blueprints are suggestions, not absolute requirements. If you think that Stuyvesant's hat would work better than Willem's, go for it. If Bolivar's goatee is unusable, go ahead and try something else. My only real request is that the leaderheads appear unique, able to appear within the same game as all the originals without seeming to be clones of anyone.

Second, I see what you mean about the hat. It also looks like there are some other things going on with the back on his head (an ear and maybe a collar sticking through). What matters, of course, is what shows up in the animation. If the camera never shows the back of his head, it doesn't matter how things do or do not line up. You could leave it as is, try resizing or swapping pieces, or ask for help developing some new skills from somebody like Ekmek who seems to know how to warp parts of leaderheads to force matching. It's completely your call; so far I am very pleased with your efforts.

Third, I would request that you avoid using the Charlemagne beard unless you can alter it. The forked end is rather distinct and already appears not only on Charlemagne, but also on Ekmek's Attila and my design for Sikulume of the Nguni. The look I was going for with Cersobleptes was that of a leader without a lot of flash, somebody more scruffy and rugged, but not a Norse fellow. Hence the ragged Colorades hair. I thought that the Bolivar goatee would compliment it nicely, some refinement without a lot of grooming. However, I recall several old leaderheads using painted-on textures to create short-cropped facial hair. I think that such scruffiness could be exactly what Cersobleptes needs in place of that actual goatee.

Thank you again for your efforts, and thank you to all the others who have expressed interest in these. I can't wait to see what you come up with.

@CAPO
I might have bolivar's goatee hacked off somewhere. I'll have to check if i updated my leader parts.

Also for the hat size have you gone to in edit mode select->select all then go to mesh->transform_>Scale on axis (and try x y and z) thats how you can make it big in a non-uniform fashion.

@Vrenir
I think I may have a go at Makeda. I'm on a kick trying of trying to add more females

Thanks, Ekmek. I like the crown and the more Africanized features. As far as texturing, whatever you think looks good; I think you're a good judge of that. Something that looks remotely Egyptian, but only barely, maybe a darker palate. The skin tone is pretty good, though even darker wouldn't be a problem, as I would assign her to Ethiopia.

Currently, I am using the Black Hatshepsut from CivGold as a placeholder, but, once polished to your recent levels of achievement, this could well provide an original Makeda for me and for many others who might like to expand the Ethiopian civ.
