Want an easy way to play Civ V online? Say hello to Giant Multiplayer Robot! (GMR)

Just a little precision, how does it work when someone lose ? He is automatically out ? Or does he need to quit the game ?

Thx

There's currently no way for us to detect whether someone has won or has been defeated. So right now they would need to surrender from the game on GMR. Have you run into this situation?

I will run it soon. does someone knows what happen in regular hotseat games ?

I've been running into this situation all the time on the site -- currently what seems to happen is everybody waits for a week, then players (other than the missing one) start surrendering until eventually the game is completely dead. Sometimes accompanied by plaintive comments on the game asking after the missing player ... would be great if we could figure out some other mechanism that would save the games at least partially, or give the host a means to boot a player who doesn't log back in again (though that wouldn't be a perfect solution either, as the host is frequently the problem player).

I would imagine if they do hit the 'Surrender' button on the GMR website, they will be replaced with an AI. This is what happens in games which haven't yet started.

If they choose to simply hold up the game...then you have a problem...and knowledge of who not to invite next time, at least.

Yes, there's been a problem so far with many public GMR games where one person can forget about the game and neglect to surrender, thus the turn stays perpetually stuck on them and everyone can do nothing but surrender themselves.

We're in the process of testing a new Turn-Timer feature that should mitigate this if not solve it out-right. The way it works is you can define a time limit of say 24 hours that a person has to take their turn. If they go over that limit it will temporarily replace them with AI for that turn and allow the game to progress. We're also considering an extension of this that says if a person misses their turn say 3 times in a row then they are automatically booted from the game. So look for that to come hopefully later this week after we make our great server migration :)

the latter is pretty much what I'm gaining from those situations :)

Sounds great mel!
Any update on the vacation patch? Summertime now and people will be dissapearing for a week or more.
Myself I'll be gone for a week around G&K release and I dont want to surrender my games that I got going, neither do I want to hold them up. Not fair to the rest of the players.

Yes, a vacation mode will be the next thing on our list! :)

Hey everyone just a heads up that GMR will be offline for about 1 hour tomorrow night (June 6, 2012) starting at 9:00pm MDT (8pm PDT, 11pm EDT, 3am GMT). We're switching hosting providers again as our current one has been pretty crappy. We expect no data loss during the process, however the website and the desktop app will be unavailable during this time.

We hope that this doesn't seriously interfere with anyone's Civ needs. Thank you all for your continued support and patience as we make GMR into an excellent service for CiV players everywhere! :)

hey guys,

We have this situation now. And a problem occured. We are playing a 6 player game. I am player n°2, I killed player n°4.

When player n°4 tried to take his turn, it was player n°5 turn. Ok normal here.

That's why he surrendered on GMR web site. But now, the GMR says that it is my turn... When I launch the game to play this turn, it is player n°5 save.

Do you know what happened ?

thanks a lot !

That is pretty strange! What is the name of the game? I'll take a look at it and get it sorted out.

Hey guys, our server migration went smoothly! Please let me know if you experience any issues. We now have a much greater ability to troubleshoot problems on the website so if problems do persist we should be able to resolve them quickly!

Awesome! Do the email notifications work? Waiting on our Indian friends to take their turn in the Speed game.

I have a couple of new turns, with no email notification. Maybe just a migration glitch, I'll let you know if it continues. (I double checked my GMR settings.)
