Want an easy way to play Civ V online? Say hello to Giant Multiplayer Robot! (GMR)

I have a couple of new turns, with no email notification. Maybe just a migration glitch, I'll let you know if it continues. (I double checked my GMR settings.)

Double check your spam folder, your email provider might not like our new SMTP server :(

In the GMR box it has Species Zero's name replaced with a Tazzik. In the game details it is normal. Is this from the vacation testing or just a wierd bug?

Actually it looks like he's changed his avatar and Steam profile name, which the GMR desktop app is showing correctly, but the website hasn't refreshed yet. Due to how browsers cache images and content it sometimes takes a bit for a change to an avatar to refresh, or it could just be a bug. :)

You can see his actual steam profile here: http://steamcommunity.com/id/species0/

When I try to log-in on the site I'm given the following error:
"This message has a timestamp of 6/13/2012 8:07:34 PM, which is beyond the allowable clock skew for in the future."

Maybe this is an issue with Steam, I was able to get on for a bit earlier in the day. I'm guessing it has to do with localised time (I'm in Ireland).

Thanks for pointing this out! Try it again now, it should work for you.

I've seen this a couple times before. It seems to be related to the time on our server getting out of sync with UTC. I'm currently looking into a way to prevent it for good :king:

What will happen to GMR games with the patch tomorrow (6/14/12)? 2K Greg said that saves may break, with units getting swapped around.

And if something happens, how can we delete the game (so we don't use up server space and can have 10 games ACTUALLY running lol)? Thanks!

As 2K_Greg said existing save files might not load or work correctly after the patch as units and civs get shuffled around. I assume this means that they're changing the internal Unique IDs of those items. If this is indeed the case I assume Civ V will fail to load existing GMR save games just like any others.

I'll be looking into as soon as the patch goes live. There's a chance we can have GMR auto-update the civ IDs inside of the save file to the new ones expected by the patch. I doubt we'll be able to fix any problems with the units though. :(

<rant>
This is honestly pretty sad behavior on 2K's part! Firstly as a software developer myself I highly doubt that it wouldn't have been possible for them to keep the civs and units consistent while adding additional content. Secondly, if they are planning on releasing a patch with such major implications on players' existing games they should give considerably more notice than one day!

Unfortunately it tends to be the case with software companies (and software developers in general), that they follow the path of least resistance. I know I'm not perfect either, but I always strive to provide the most transparent and quality user experience possible in all the work that I do. I would expect the same thing from a large company like 2K/Firaxis.

Anyway, if any of you didn't see 2K Greg's post you can find it here: http://forums.2kgames.com/showthread.php?123430-Patch-coming-Thursday-6-14-important-info-about-saved-games!

Oh, and if it is the case that your existing GMR games become un-playable you can simply Surrender from them by visiting the details page for the game. That will free up a slot of your 10 game limit. :)

Thanks for the quick response!

That really sucks, especially as most GMR games are spread out over several months. I suppose if they don't work we'll just have to start over once we get used to G&K!

Which isn't such a bad thing, as I started several GMR games to hold me over until G&K. Though it is sad those may go to waste (except the fun we've already had!)

Truly sad if it makes them unplayable. We've got over three months invested in our game, and it's just entering another really interesting phase. :(

Yeah I know, I'd hate to lose what we've got. But I guess on the brightside we have G&K coming out soon, and GMR isn't going anywhere, so we still have a lot of potential for great games in the future! And who knows, maybe 2K/Firaxis might actually implement Pitboss or decent PBEM right into the game! :)

Anyone know what time they were supposed to update? Cause I've done turns on 2 different games at 4 pm GMT without any problems.
That means either it worked, or they havent updated yet. I would guess the latter.

Hey guys great news! I was able to update my copy of CiV to the beta version of today's patch and tested loading several different GMR games. As it turns out the majority of them work just fine!

The only case where you'll run into some issues is if you're playing with DLC civs. These can get switched around from what they should be. From what I can tell this is due to Firaxis standardizing the in-game ID for many of the existing DLC civs (which is actually a good thing!). So I feel confident that we can have GMR "fix" any save files that have DLC to work with the new patch :)

Well. Crap. Plenty of dlc games going, and one of them here on the forums. Lucky we're not that far in yet.

It looks like we'll be able to fix DLC games to have the correct civilizations, so they can stay alive. It might have to be a manual process though, unless we can think of a way to automate it. But even if I had to fix everyone's DLC civs by hand, that wouldn't be so bad.
