Want an easy way to play Civ V online? Say hello to Giant Multiplayer Robot! (GMR)

I got Firefox too, and pressing F5 worked for me, as well.

Thanks, and thanks also for making this good program.

Hi, my game crashes every time I try to load my turn on: Game#1087
This happened after two players surrendered. We tried a full round revert, but I'm still CTD. Not sure if you did anything, but it worked for me today! Disregard and thanks for all your hard work.

Just to be sure...

I've done this :

Is it the correct way to invite a player? Can he takes place of Islandia even if his civ isn't turned into an AI yet? If not, how can i put Islandia(Egypt) away?

you need to click the search icon. and their Steam icon shows there. then drag their Steam icon into the box of big letter

The way to boot Islandia is this:

Check how many skips he has. When it is his turn, put a timer on the game for an hour, and set the skip limit to the same or less than the number of skips he already has. If it has already been his turn for an hour, he should get skipped and booted as soon as the GMR website refreshes. When you see that this has happened, put the timer back to what it was and remember also to change the skip limit back. The last part is important--you don't want to boot anyone else by mistake.

The system wasn't really set up with this in mind, but I've used it this way and it works just fine.

The new player might need to be invited after Islandia has been removed/replaced by an AI.

Thanks Tab. I'm sure Mel will thank you too, less work for him!

Hmmm: hopefully the game doesn't try to add him as Rome...shouldn't be possible as that civ is dead.

When i click the search button there is nothing else than a window appearing below as yo can see. Does the slowdown of the site had something to do about it?

Also, the Steam Vavle company has technical problems atm with the steam community.

I reverted until me 2 rounds ago. So i'm gonna play my turn and others as well until Islandia i guess. Then i will do like you said.

Hi Mel. Um...we have a situation hopefully you can help us with.

Tab tried to follow my instructions above, but he did it when it was his turn, apparently when it had already been his turn for over an hour. So, um, he got skipped and then booted (he set it to one hour and one skip max!), and the game disappeared off his list.

Since then it has done the same with anyone who hasn't managed to be there that hour to take their turn, including me; the game is gone from my list too.

I don't know if any of the players are still in the game.

Is this salvageable, can you help get the game back for us? I'm a little worried that if it has gone to all AI it might cycle way into the future and be unrevertable, or just disappear altogether.

Update on this scenario for ya Mel. First, the game ID link is http://multiplayerrobot.com/Game#340

Second, I know I personally got an email saying the GMR refused to boot the final player (which would have been me) and instead reverted the boots that were in sequence and removed the timer and skip limit. Great thinking putting that in there!

Third, according to the game site this in fact did NOT happen. Instead, all of the boots except Tab's and Onan's were reverted (though I got no emails saying the others ever happened in the first place), and Islandia, the player we need to boot, is the host! So we're stuck.

Thanks for the help! :)

P.s. Tab is Russia, I am Arabia, and mblum is the player to be substituted into Islandia's Egypt.

I still can't quite believe what happened...at least it's funny. And as Gamer said, well done on foreseeing this issue and building in a fail safe mechanism! :goodjob:

I have created some games but they are all corrupted quite quickly. I am playing the French version of GnK. Anybody knows whether the fact that I play in French could be a problem. Any other hint on why I have so many problems? The games that are problematic are 2735, 2667, 2112, 1945

An update on this above.

Looking more carefully, there are now TWO Islandias in this game. The GMR also used him to replace the dead player Rome, now listed as Other on the GMR.

The new player (mblum) is going to replace Egypt. And the turn is stuck on Rome, the non-existent player. Thanks for the help!

Wow, even more wacky. :crazyeye:

This method would normally work quite well except when the player you're trying to skip is on Vacation Mode, as Islandia is. When that happens they will immediately be skipped each time the turn comes to them, but it won't count as a "skip" against their skip limit. In this case I'm afraid the only option is to send me a message and I'll remove them as quickly as possible :)

Hmmm: hopefully the game doesn't try to add him as Rome...shouldn't be possible as that civ is dead.

GMR will actually let someone replace and AI player that has been eliminated in the game. As we can't really detect from the save file that player or civ has been eliminated there's not an easy way for us to do this. So just be careful not to havea human take the place of an eliminated civ as that will likely cause problems.

Alright it was pretty messy but I've got it all back on track with mblum subbed in and everything. The turn is currently Tabarnak's and I've verified that the save file for it loads and functions correctly. Good luck guys and let me know if you run into any more problems :)

Thank you. I can confirm it is fixed. Tab and I have taken our turns and the saves are working as normal. I really appreciate the effort you put in, m4stermel.

Yes, thank you for the magic. :)

Hi Mel,

would you be able to have a look at game #2201 ?

It's Klimek's turn and he says he keeps having CTD when he's trying to load the game for his turn.
He tried the usual steps to fix it(d/l save from GMR website, lower the settings, etc) but to no avail.
We also tried reverting the turn (1 player) but he still gets a CTD.

Is there anything else we could try?
Should we revert a full turn (all players) ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

We've just released an update to the GMR website that allows a game host to enter a description for their game that will be visible just under the player list on the game's details page. We also went through all your existing games and took the host's first comment (if available) and set it as the description. Entering a description will be required when creating a new game. Hopefully this will encourage people creating new games to give a little more information to potential players and increase the overall enjoyment of GMR.

As always thank you for your continued support and feedback :)
