War Monger Penilty With Ally

Not sure if this is the correct area to post, but...
While playing my civ, I became friends with India, later in the game they were at war with Russia. India sent me a joint war request, and I accepted. Soon as I closed the dialogue box India declared me a war monger.

Why would a civ get the war monger penalty from an ally requesting joint war? I understand other civs giving it, but not the one requesting joint war. Please advise.

You get no joint war penalty. This is a trick with India ... never joint war with them!!!.
You will get +6 with them for hoint war and -8 with them for warmongering (their primary agenda is peacekeeper)
If you are an ally with them you will have so many positives it is not a problem, they are just voicing their primary agenda negative response.... He did not denounce you ,,, just called you a warminger right? Sticks and stones

Sorry for delay in replying, but yes they denounced me. That's when I realized they gave me the war mongering penalty.

The denounce means a civ is unhappy with you and there are likely to be a few negatives involved, the one on the screen is just the main one. Gandhi is likely to do this more than anyone else as they have an additional -8 for disliking people that fight (even though they do). The amount of warmonger for the joint war declaration is 0. Ghandi added an additional -8 to this which was enough to denounce. The -8 is considered a warmonger thing which is why I imagine you are getting this... as I said, do not go to war with this two faced hypocrite
